Pelosi suggests impeaching Trump may be an option as Dems seek to block SCOTUS nomination

Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) suggested Sunday that she could move to impeach President Donald Trump a second time as part of an effort to block him from filling the Supreme Court vacancy left by the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

According to the Washington Examiner, the House speaker declined to rule out the drastic step in an interview with ABC’s This Week that raised eyebrows.

Dems desperate to stop Trump

House Democrats impeached Trump last year, only for Republicans to acquit him in February.

Months later, Democrats are desperately trying to find a way to stop Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) from exercising their legitimate powers to nominate and confirm a replacement for Ginsburg, who passed away last week at the age of 87, NPR reported.

According to the Washington Examiner, Dems say that it’s hypocritical for Republicans to fill the seat after McConnell blocked Barack Obama from replacing the late Antonin Scalia in 2016 because it was a presidential election year. But Republicans say they have an electoral mandate from the people to move ahead.

Pelosi, for her part, was asked by ABC host George Stephanopoulos to comment on what plans Democrats have to stop Trump from confirming a third Supreme Court justice in his first term, mentioning impeachment in a lame-duck session as a delay tactic.

“We have our options. We have arrows in our quiver that I’m not about to discuss right now,” Pelosi replied, as the Examiner reported.

Ramping up the threats

When asked a second time whether she would rule anything out, Pelosi demurred and gave a response that many found bizarre, as the Daily Mail reported.

“Good morning, Sunday morning,” Pelosi said with an awkward laugh, as if starting the interview from the beginning. “When we weigh the equities of protecting our democracy, it requires us to use every arrow in our quiver.”

The White House later denounced Pelosi and her fellow Democrats in a statement that drew attention to Democratic threats that “nothing is off the table” if Republicans do not abandon their plans to fill the seat, including extreme measures like abolishing the filibuster and court-packing.

“The Speaker threatened to impeach the President — again — for simply fulfilling his constitutional obligation,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Brian Morgenstern said in a statement to Fox News. “Numerous Democrats are threatening to pack the court and say things like ‘nothing is off the table.’ These are bizarre and dangerous power grabs by Democrats who will stop at nothing to erode the Constitution to enact their radical agenda.”

The Democrats are nothing if not predictable.
