Fox News reports that there is now speculation that Minnesota could become a red state this general election.
To put this into perspective, Minnesota has gone to the Democrats since 1972, including in 2016, when President Trump lost the state by 44,000 votes. So, if Trump were to win Minnesota, then it would be the first time that the state went to a Republican presidential candidate in almost half a century.
Former congressman says it can happen
The suggestion that Minnesota could vote red was made by GOP Senate candidate Jason Lewis Saturday on “Fox & Friends Weekend.”
“It’s sort of a microcosm of the entire country,” Lewis said. “As the urban liberals become a little bit more crazy, it drives everybody else into Trump country and red country.”
Minnesota, of course, is where the death of George Floyd and a number of the subsequent riots have taken place. Lewis believes that law and order is going to be the number one issue for a lot of voters this election and what could cause more moderate Democrats to vote Republican.
“I think we are going to win, and I think the president is going to win,” Lewis said.
Minnesota has 10 electoral votes, which could prove to be significant. Perhaps it is for this reason that Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden recently announced that he will be campaigning in-person in Minnesota.
Not the only one
Given the unusual circumstances that we find ourselves in this election season, both with the coronavirus and the rioting, there is speculation that many ordinarily blue states, not just Minnesota, could go red this November.
The biggest name on that list is probably New York.
Recently, President Trump announced that his campaign is “putting New York in play,” meaning, in other words, that he is going to try to win the normally deep-blue state.
Just like with Minnesota, President Trump believes that he has a chance to win New York because of Democratic officials’ support of the far-left’s defund the police agenda, which Trump, and many others, cite as at a cause of the city’s sudden rise in violent crime.
If such speculation about New York, Minnesota, and other blue states is true, we could end up seeing one of the reddest election maps in history this November.
