Trump challenges Barr to deliver real results in Durham investigation

Attorney General Bill Barr, who is overseeing the probe into the Obama administration’s alleged spying on the Trump campaign and incoming administration, has been publically challenged by Donald Trump to deliver substantive results as the probe wraps up.

Trump, who typically appears to be on the same page as Barr, said on Thursday that Barr could go down in history as “the greatest attorney general” or just “an average guy” depending on how the Justice Department handles the findings of U.S. Attorney John Durham’s investigation.

Challenge issued

Trump has expressed great trust in Bill Barr’s judgment during Barr’s tenure as attorney general, but as rumors swirl about the outcome of the Durham investigation, Trump is upping the pressure on the DOJ to deliver real results.

During an exclusive interview with FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo Thursday morning, Trump said of Durham: “I hope he’s doing a great job, and I hope they’re not going to be politically correct. Obama knew everything. Vice President Biden, as dumb as he may be, knew everything, and everybody else knew.”

“And [former FBI Director James] Comey, and [former CIA Director John] Brennan, and [former Director of National Intelligence James] Clapper, they were all terrible, they lied to Congress,” Trump continued.

Durham’s investigation probing the origins of the Russia collusion investigation that shadowed much of Trump’s first term was launched in 2019 and is expected to wrap up within the next month.

Trump said that based on how the DOJ handles the findings of the investigation, “Bill Barr can go down as the greatest attorney general in the history of our country, or he can go down as an average guy. We’ll see what happens.”

“Bill Barr and Durham have a chance to be — Bill Barr is great most of the time, but if he wants to be politically correct, he’ll be just another guy,” Trump emphasized.

“They have all the answers,” Trump said. “It goes all to Obama, and it goes right to Biden.”

No details yet

Barr and Durham have been extraordinarily tight-lipped about Durham’s investigation, which has stretched on for months with no real updates.

However, Barr did indicate earlier this year that he does not expect criminal indictments of either former President Barack Obama or Vice President Joe Biden.

Barr said in May that “not every abuse of power, no matter how outrageous, is necessarily a federal crime … As for President Obama and Vice President Biden, whatever their level of involvement based on what I know, I don’t expect Durham’s work will lead to a criminal investigation of either man. Our concern of potential criminality is focused on others.”
