Pelosi blows off reports of attempted election interference by China, sets her sights on the Kremlin

While U.S. intelligence suggests that interference in the upcoming presidential election could come from a variety of sources, Nancy Pelosi confessed Sunday that she’s only concerned about one of them.

According to the Washington Examiner, National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien said in a recent interview with CBS that the U.S. will fight back against attempted interference by major players like Iran, China, and Russia. But speaking Sunday, House Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) seemed to have her sights set on the Kremlin alone.

“Russia is actively, 24/7 interfering in our election,” she told CNN, according to a separate report from the Examiner. “They did so in 2016, and they are doing so now.”

Pelosi went on to say that interference from China, which is said to be backing Democrat White House hopeful Joe Biden, is “not equivalent” to that of Russia, the Examiner reported.

“We’re not going to put up with it”

A report from the office of the director of National Intelligence said it seems that “China prefers that President Trump — whom Beijing sees as unpredictable — does not win reelection.” Iran, the report indicates, feels similarly, while Russia is reportedly trying to “denigrate former Vice President Biden and what it sees as an anti-Russia ‘establishment.'”

For his part, O’Brien said during his appearance on CBS’s Face the Nation that the U.S. government is “taking steps to counter” election interference, “whether it’s China or Russia or Iran.”

“We’re not going to put up with it, and there will be severe consequences with any country that attempts to interfere with our free and fair elections, whether their leaders prefer Joe Biden or prefer Donald Trump. It doesn’t matter,” he told CBS, according to the Examiner.

“The American people need to know”

But who the interference comes from does seem to matter to Pelosi. According to the Examiner, the long-time San Francisco Democrat again put the focus on the Kremlin during an interview later Sunday with Fox News personality Chris Wallace.

“The American people need to know what the Russians are doing in this case, and the American people believe that they should decide who the next president is, not Vladimir Putin,” she told Wallace, according to the Examiner.

The House speaker went on to dismiss U.S. intelligence about China’s role in alleged interference as inconclusive. “They try to blanket it with the Chinese, they said, prefer Biden — we don’t know that, but that’s what they’re saying, but they’re not really getting involved in the presidential election,” she said, according to the Examiner.

According to a transcript from RealClearPolitics, Pelosi also touted herself as a decades-long “critic of China,” telling Wallace that she takes “second place to no one on [her] criticism” of the communist nation. “But…for them to give some equivalence is not right. It doesn’t really tell the story,” she added, as RealClearPolitics reported.

As usual, it seems Pelosi is only concerned about ethics when it doesn’t benefit her bottom line. Will she ever learn to put partisan politics aside for the good of the American people?
