While a panel of Fox News contributors largely had good things to say about former First Lady Michelle Obama’s virtual speech to the Democratic National Convention on Monday, one surprising detractor proved that wasn’t the case across the board.
According to the Washington Examiner, former Democratic National Committee (DNC) chairwoman Donna Brazile stunned fans when she told Fox on Monday night that she was less than impressed with Michelle Obama’s pre-recorded address, which Brazile said failed to mention Democrat White House hopeful Joe Biden’s newly announced running mate, California Sen. Kamala Harris (D).
“I was a little bit concerned,” Brazile explained, according to the Examiner. “I was waiting — she kept talking about Joe Biden, and she knows Joe Biden very well, but she also knows Kamala Harris, one of the first to endorse Barack Obama when he ran.”
“I am disappointed”
According to the Examiner, Brazile said during a panel discussion hosted by Fox’s Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier that she “heard that perhaps [Obama] taped the speech before the announcement” of Biden’s pick for vice president, but that she was still left “disappointed.”
“I am disappointed that we did not hear about Kamala Harris,” the former Democratic Party official said, as the Examiner reported.
“The first Black first lady of the United States did not mention the first Black female ever to be on the major party ticket,” Brazile added. “I am a little disappointed that I didn’t hear that.”
Brazile’s remarks came in contrast to that of Fox contributors like Chris Wallace and Brit Hume, who the Examiner said “heaped praise” on the former first lady’s speech.
When they go low…
But although the likes of Wallace and Hume saw a silver lining, Brazile wasn’t the only one to publicly criticize the former first lady. Hoover Institute fellow and historian Victor Davis Hanson did as well — albeit for different reasons.
Speaking with Fox’s Tucker Carlson, Hanson took issue with Obama’s reiteration of her 2016 slogan, “When they go low, we go high,” complaining that it doesn’t fit with her party’s record.
“When she says ‘We go high when they go low,’ she’s talking right now when her husband’s administration has weaponized the IRS, the FBI, the [Department of Justice], the CIA, and is the subject of a massive investigation by [U.S. Attorney John Durham],” Hanson told Carlson, according to Fox.
Hanson went on to predict that Durham’s probe will end up proving Barack Obama oversaw “one of the most corrupt administrations” in U.S. history.
“It will probably end up, if things happen as many predict, as one of the most corrupt administrations that tried to destroy a political campaign, a president, transition, and a presidency,” the columnist and best-selling author said, according to Fox, “and she’s saying, ‘When they go low, we go high.'”
