Former Clinton spokesman is ‘rethinking’ his prior well wishes to Limbaugh amid cancer battle

After announcing a serious cancer diagnosis earlier this year, conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh subsequently made headlines when President Donald Trump presented him with a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

While even his political critics initially wished him well in his fight against advanced lung cancer, former Clinton White House press secretary Joe Lockhart made it clear that is not feeling so empathetic anymore, as reported by Breitbart.

“Rethinking that tweet”

Lockhart’s latest take on the issue came in a tweet on Monday that struck a much different tone than a post in February.

He previously affirmed that he wished a “full recovery for Rush Limbaugh but the idea he deserves a medal of freedom is offensive.” On Monday, however, he expressed a change of heart.

“[S]everal months ago I tweeted well wishes to Rush Limbaugh on his health fight,” Lockhart tweeted. “I’m rethinking that tweet this morning.”

The tweet came on the heels of Limbaugh’s controversial remarks regarding a relationship Democratic vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris had with former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown more than two decades ago.

He began by referencing the NBA’s decision to fire a freelance photographer who posted an offensive meme about the California senator following Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s announcement that he had selected her as his running mate.

“Slept her way up”

Limbaugh then read an excerpt from an article in The Spectator in which the author described the supposedly unscrupulous methods Harris used to advance her early political career.

“It’s no secret, but public knowledge that Kamala Harris slept her way up into California political life by being a very public escort and mattress for California Democrat kingmaker Willie Brown,” the piece states.

“So we have two different stories here that are trading off the known fact that she was Willie Brown’s mattress, and that [Brown] has written about it, and that he has talked about how it propelled her — that he ended up being one of her mentors,” Limbaugh said in response.

Such brash rhetoric might be enough for Lockhart and others to deem Limbaugh unworthy of an esteemed honor like the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

When political differences lead to rooting for another person to physically suffer, however, it is probably time to adjust some priorities in life.
