Barr foreshadows new ‘development’ in John Durham’s probe

Attorney General William Barr spilled the beans Thursday, telling Fox News host Sean Hannity that there would be “a development” Friday in U.S. Attorney John Durham’s investigation into the origins of the Trump–Russia collusion probe.

According to Fox, Barr said the development would be “an indication that things are moving along at the proper pace as dictated by the facts in this investigation,” but would not be “earth-shattering.”

Barr said that the American people need to know what those at the FBI and other top government officials did during the Russia investigation, and that people who broke the law while investigating also need to be prosecuted.

“If people crossed the line, if people involved in that activity violated criminal law, they will be charged,” Barr told Hannity, according to Fox. “John Durham is an independent man, highly experienced, and his investigation is pursuing apace. There was some delay because of COVID, but I’m satisfied with the progress and I’ve said there are going to be developments, significant developments, before the election.”

Barr: Election won’t get in the way

Speaking with Hannity, Barr also repeated the assertion that the Justice Department will not do anything inappropriate before the election, but said that results will be released as they are determined.

“We’re not doing this on the election schedule,” Barr said, according to Fox. “We’re aware of the election. We’re not going to do anything inappropriate before the election. But we’re not being dictated to by this schedule.”

The AG explained: “What’s dictating the timing of this are developments in the case.”

Trump gets impatient

President Donald Trump, for his part, has expressed impatience for the results, which he thinks are going to help him in November’s election.

“Bill Barr has the chance to be the greatest of all time. But if he wants to be politically correct, he’ll be just another guy because he knows all the answers, he knows what they have,” Trump said in a recent appearance on Fox, according to The Hill.

Barr pushed back against the president’s concerns that he’d try to be “politically correct” during a roundtable discussion earlier Thursday in Wyoming.

“Do people think I care about being politically correct?” Barr said, as The Hill reported.

Indictments against Democrat or “Deep State” operatives would indeed go a long way to boosting Trump’s political capital before the election, but Durham has not promised any time frame for results. We can only hope accountability comes sooner than later.
