‘Outrageous, sinful’: Sen. Tim Scott slams Pelosi’s take on GOP police reform bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is being taken to task for some especially inflammatory comments she made last week.

Following Pelosi’s claim that Senate Republicans, by way of their police reform proposal, are “trying to get away with … the murder of George Floyd,” Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) humiliated the speaker in a very public way, asking, “Why in the world would she stoop so low?”

Pelosi’s disgrace

This situation began this past week when Pelosi was interviewed by CBS News about the Senate policing reform bill that was being championed by Sen. Scott, but which has since failed to receive the necessary votes to proceed with debate in the upper chamber, as Fox News reported.

“For something to happen, [Republican lawmakers are] going to have to face the reality of police brutality, the reality of the need for justice in policing, and the recognition that there are many, many good people in law enforcement, but not all, and that we have to address those concerns,” Pelosi said. “So far they’re trying to get away with murder, actually. The murder of George Floyd,” she added, according to USA Today.

Pelosi’s remark was made as both the Democrat-led House and Republican-led Senate pushed two different police reform measures in response to the civil unrest that has followed the death of Floyd in Minneapolis last month.

The speaker and other Democrats declared the Republican bill a non-starter, claiming that it doesn’t go far enough to address the problem, a fact which led to the speaker’s controversial comment. Her incendiary take, in turn, led to a stinging rebuke from Sen. Scott.

“The most outrageous, sinful comment”

The Republican lawmaker responded to Pelosi’s remark during an interview with The Guy Benson Show on Fox News Radio in which the host asked Scott for his reaction to the speaker’s characterization of the bill.

“It was the most outrageous, sinful comment I’ve heard as a public official, period,” Scott said, according to Breitbart. “I thought to myself that how in the world does this woman sitting, standing in front of a twenty-four thousand dollar refrigerator have the sense to jump into the bottomless pit of race politics? Why in the world would she want to do that?”

Scott went on to suggest an answer to his own question — that Pelosi has “lived so long in a state of privilege that she has forgotten.” What has she forgotten?

According to the senator from South Carolina, Pelosi has “forgotten that it was President Trump and the criminal justice reform done in 2018 that made up for the Democrats’ 1994 crime bill … that is the school choice movement that frees more kids in poverty from the poor education system brought to us by the Democrats and the teachers’ unions then they’ve ever seen.”

Scott then finished Pelosi off with something that many conservatives have surely been thinking since renewed talk of police reform first began in recent weeks.

“Why in the world would she stoop so low?” queried Scott. “And it’s simply this: They believe — and I truly believe this — they believe that campaigning on police brutality is more important than solving police reform.” Sadly, the practice of putting symbolism ahead of results seems to be a hallmark of the modern Democratic Party.
