The Trump campaign released a new ad on YouTube on Friday that featured prominent Democrats praising the president for his handling of the coronavirus epidemic.
The ad, entitled “Hope,” includes praise for Trump from California Governor Gavin Newsom and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, both Democrats.
“He said everything that I could have hoped for,” Newsom says in one clip. “The actions he has taken, his team, has been on it,” Cuomo says in another clip.

“In times of struggle, we see the true greatness of the American character. Americans from all walks of life are rallying together to defeat the unseen enemy,” Trump says in the ad.

The ad also includes clips from several mainstream media figures who also praised the president for his handling of the public health crisis.
“He is being the kind of leader that people need,” CNN anchor Dana Bash says of Trump.
“He did what a president is supposed to do,” MSNBC host and frequent Trump-basher Joe Scarborough says.
Polls favor Trump response
A new Gallup poll now shows that 60% of Americans favor Trump’s response to the coronavirus outbreak. Other polls have been in the 50-53% range. Trump’s approval rating also returned to its earlier high of 49% in the poll.
Gallup pointed out that presidents typically see higher approval ratings during times of national emergency or crisis. Former President George W. Bush most notably saw a 35% jump in his ratings after the 9/11 attacks.
Trump has given daily press briefings detailing the status of the outbreak as well as what the government is doing to respond.
He has advocated a 15-day period of social distancing and following the CDC guidelines of being in groups of no more than 10 people, but has expressed a desire to “reopen the country” soon, setting Easter Sunday as a rough target for beginning to restore some semblance of normalcy to parts of the country, if and where possible.
