Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) claims that his runoff election opponent is getting help from the media in covering up shady dealings the Democrat had with China, Fox News reported.
On Fox News’ America’s News HQ on Friday, Perdue said it was “amazing” that Ossoff’s job with a Chinese company between 2017 and 2019 was not getting any media attention in the run-up to the election.
“[T]his question needs to be asked,” Perdue said. “But it’s not asked by any of the liberal media that’s out there. It’s amazing to me that you can have the Eric Swalwell crisis, the Hunter Biden crisis, and ignore the Jon Ossoff crisis.”
Perdue claims Ossoff groomed by China
Perdue claimed Ossoff’s job with a Chinese company was an attempt by the communist nation to gain influence within the U.S. government by hiring him before he entered office.
“This is clearly a pattern of activity from the Chinese Communist Party,” Perdue said. “They identified Jon Ossoff after his 2017 attempt to run for the U.S. House, and lost. They identified him as an ambitious young politician on the Democratic side that they probably could get influence with. So, they hired him, and he worked for two years for this propaganda company of the Chinese Communist Party … and he hid it from the people of Georgia during his primary.”
Perdue said that Ossoff’s deception was key to his candidacy. “He might not have won that primary had he fully disclosed that,” the incumbent senator continued. “He got caught. He then disclosed it, lied about it, and lied about it again, … he never has answered that question.”
During a meet and greet with the Democratic candidate on Thursday in Georgia, Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked Ossoff why he hid his Chinese involvement until after the primary was over. Ossoff called the question “nonsense” and implied that Doocy was not a “serious reporter” for even asking the question.
Nation’s eyes on close race
According to recent polls, Perdue and Ossoff are locked in a razor-thin contest, and the winner of the race could determine which party controls the Senate.
If both Perdue and Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R) lose their runoffs, the Senate will be controlled by the Democrats, with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking any 50-50 ties.
A record 3 million people voted early ahead of the contest set for Tuesday, but the early ballots could pose similar problems to the presidential election in terms of signature verification and counting errors. Republicans are expected to be heavily favored for in-person voting, but mail-in ballots tend to favor Democrats.
While Republicans lost a lawsuit to limit ballot drop box access to the same hours as early voting locations, they have recruited 8,000 poll watchers for the in-person runoff, which is double the amount than during the 2020 presidential election.
Perdue beat Ossoff in the general election, but failed to get 50% of the vote, triggering a statewide runoff election.
