Touch-first-ask-later Joe Biden has done it again.
The former vice president and 2020 hopeful left an Iowa woman “uncomfortable” after he grabbed and held on to her hands while she was asking him a question at a campaign event.
What happened?
The incident took place Monday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at the Hawkeye Area Labor Council’s Labor Day picnic. Biden attended the event in which he had an opportunity to have direct interaction with potential voters.
Among them was 41-year-old Jessica Roman, a local preschool teacher who works with special needs children. Amid recent changes to Iowa’s collective bargaining laws, Roman asked Biden what he would be able to do for unionized members of her profession.
Biden, in response, went straight for her hands.
“I think that he means well, you know,” said Roman, who clearly didn’t appreciate the gesture. “But, he grabbed my hands right away and that was really uncomfortable. He was very close and, in my mind, I’m like, this is part of our problem: Not recognizing that you need to ask first, or can I shake your hand? Not just grab your hands and hang onto them. That bothers me.”
Typical Biden
The entire incident, roughly 30 seconds long, was captured on camera by the Washington Examiner. You can see for yourself here:
Of course, none of this is a surprise as, since announcing his presidency, countless women have come forward to accuse Biden of inappropriately touching them. The former VP blamed this on “changing social norms,” saying that he “will be more mindful about respecting personal space in the future. That’s my responsibility, and I will meet it.”
The only problem is — as the video shows — he still is failing to do just that. Despite the best efforts of his staff, Biden continues to go in hands-first.
“Not relevant”
But, perhaps, this is one of the more minor problems that Biden is facing, considering that his Democratic Party has moved far afield from where it was when he served in Congress. This fact was not lost on Roman, who isn’t very keen on a Biden presidency.
“I wouldn’t say it’s something that I didn’t like but, you know, I’m in my 40s, I’m raising a teenager, I work with very young families, and he’s not relevant,” she said. “It’s been too long since he’s raised a family, too long since he’s lived on a normal paycheck. I want somebody that actually gets it, that understands what it is to live on the paychecks that we live on, the housing crisis that we have, all of the ways that those things affect us.”
If that’s what Roman wants, she might find it difficult to find a Democrat in 2020 who fits the bill. Biden, however, continues to lead the race for his party’s nomination.
