Sarah Huckabee Sanders may have traded her job as White House press secretary for a gig on Fox News, but according to her, some things never change.
Sanders revealed to the Fox News audience that, although she hasn’t been kicked out of any restaurants recently, she still gets “relentlessly” attacked in public by other women.
Flashback
Sanders’ comments came during her debut as a Fox News contributor on Friday morning when she appeared on Fox & Friends.
Co-host Steve Doocy made reference to an incident that occurred when Sanders was still working for the Trump administration, in which she was forced to leave a Virginia restaurant called The Red Hen. Readers will likely recall that fellow customers took issue with Sanders’ mere presence at the establishment, citing the president’s position on the temporary separation of illegal immigrant children from their families.
After Doocy opined that the situation likely “impacted their business for a little while,” he asked Sanders, “Are you still taking heat when you go out to eat?”
“You know, it usually depends on where I am in the country,” she said. “Back home in Arkansas, things have so far been pretty easy and very welcoming.”
It’s still happening
Doocy followed up by asking what typically occurs when Sanders is not back home, such as when she is “here in New York City.”
“I haven’t been asked to leave any restaurant, thankfully,” replied Sanders. “But, every once in a while you always, you know, you have somebody who comes up to say something nasty to you.”
“Like what?” asked Doocy.
“What I always find interesting is, 99% of the people that come over to say something negative and to attack you are women,” said Sanders. “And I find that very startling from a, you know, group of people that claim to be the champions of women empowerment.”
Where’s the solidarity?
Emphasizing her point, Sanders added, “I am only the third woman and the first mom to ever be the White House press secretary, and yet women attack me relentlessly, instead of, you know, being proud that we have more women doing those types of jobs.”
As we all — including Sanders — know, such solidarity immediately vanishes as soon as you are discovered to have an “R” next to your name. Hopefully, she will have no trouble finding some places to eat that don’t cater to politics at the expense of gracious and welcoming customer service.
