Fox News star Ed Henry is back.
On Friday, Henry made an emotional return to “Fox & Friends,” the show that he normally hosts on the weekends, appearing for the first time since leaving to donate a portion of his liver to his sister.
A true brother
Henry made his return roughly two months after having an operation to remove 30 percent of his liver, which he gave to his younger sister, Colleen. He, however, tried to shift attention away from himself.
“It was really about Colleen,” he said. “She’s had more bumps than me. … Receiving the donation, it takes more time, it’s harder.”
Colleen suffers from chronic liver disease which has put her life in danger. As of now, it is unclear how successful the transplant has been. More time is needed to see if it takes.
Henry said that Colleen is “doing great.” He also thanked everyone for supporting him during his absence.
A heroic audience
Henry’s return took place before a live studio audience of New York firefighters whom Fox was honoring in remembrance of those who died during the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.
Holding back tears throughout the entirety of his appearance, Henry recalled friends that he lost on that tragic day. He also compared what he did for his sister with what firefighters do every day.
“I did that for my sister, whom I love,” he said. “That’s easy, I think. What you do every single day, helping people whom you may not even know. The amount of people who rushed into those buildings on 9/11, Stephen Siller and everyone else — they didn’t know people whom they wanted to save.”
A lighter moment
Henry also recalled a funny incident that occurred during his absence, shortly after his surgery, when he attended co-host Pete Hegseth’s wedding. At the time, Henry still had a sensitive incision on his chest, and it just so happens that another network star, Sean Hannity, has a habit of greeting his friends with a little jab.
“He punched me, but he did not hit my incision,” he joked. “I’m fine, I lived. … I was Hannit-ized!”
Henry will now return to his normal weekend position on “Fox & Friends.”
