Fox’s Shepard Smith bashes Trump over ‘SharpieGate’

It’s no secret that Fox News host Shep Smith doesn’t often miss a chance to attack President Donald Trump.

But this week, he just about had a meltdown on live TV — over the absurd “Sharpiegate” kerfuffle, no less.

Alabama in danger?

Earlier in the week, Trump talked about the potential path of Hurricane Dorian, using a map that had apparently been altered to show the state of Alabama as being within the zone of danger. Smith characterized the decision as “inexplicable.”

“Some things in Trumplandia are inexplicable,” he began. “This week’s edition, the president’s ongoing claim that Alabama was at risk from Hurricane Dorian. It wasn’t.”

“Maybe he got some bad info from somebody,” Smith continued. “Maybe he made a mistake. Maybe he was confused. We don’t know.”

“But he was wrong. And since for days and days, he’s been insisting with fake visual aids in hand that he was right.”

Smith went on to show footage of Trump warning people on Sunday that Alabama could be hit, even though the National Weather Service had said the state wasn’t at risk. He had tweeted the same message earlier.

“That,” Smith stated, “was wrong. It gave birth to a lot of very funny memes. But the subject of the goof was too serious, so the national weather service swiftly corrected him issuing a statement from the office in Birmingham.”

Early map shows Alabama in Dorian’s path

Trump has continued to defend himself in a series of tweets. “In the early days of the hurricane, when it was predicted that Dorian would go through Miami or West Palm Beach, even before it reached the Bahamas, certain models strongly suggested that Alabama & Georgia would be hit as it made its way through Florida & to the Gulf,” he said in one.

“Instead it turned North and went up the coast, where it continues now. In the one model through Florida, the Great State of Alabama would have been hit or grazed. In the path it took, no. Read my FULL FEMA statement. What I said was accurate! All Fake News in order to demean!” the president continued in another.

Earlier, Trump tweeted a map showing early predictions about the route that Dorian could take, and it did include parts of Alabama. “This was the originally projected path of the Hurricane in its early stages. As you can see, almost all models predicted it to go through Florida also hitting Georgia and Alabama. I accept the Fake News apologies!”

Naturally, the Trump campaign is now selling Trump markers, campaign manager Brad Parscale tweeted Friday.
