Mariah Carey posts backstage selfie with ‘President Clinton and her husband’

All Mariah Carey wants for Christmas is “President” Hillary Clinton.

Carey met Mrs. Clinton and her other half, Bill, at a Barbara Streisand concert in New York City and posted a selfie with the failed presidential candidate that pointedly referred to the former first lady as the rightful occupant of the Oval Office.

“An honor to meet President Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton! Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do for our country,” Carey tweeted Monday.

Liberalpalooza

Carey and the Clintons were among a host of left-wing celebrities who attended Streisand’s Madison Square Garden concert this Saturday in the heart of deep-blue New York. Streisand’s first show in the city in 13 years proved to be a virtue signaling bonanza as Streisand turned to bashing Trump and praising the Clintons. The singer said that she wished she could have performed at a Clinton inauguration, a dream that never materialized.

“A great president needs a sense of history and unquenchable thirst for knowledge,” she said of Bill. “And the compassion that would not allow children to be separated from their parents.”

Streisand also gave a shout out to Trump foes Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and Rev. Al Sharpton, who were in the audience, and mocked Trump with a rendition of “Send in the Clowns.” Images of the White House covered in a circus tent and Trump in clown makeup appeared on screen.

The liberal sermonizing continued backstage when Carey posed for a selfie with the rightful heir to the Oval Office — at least, according to Clinton and her followers. Clinton responded on Tuesday, tweeting, “The honor is ours; it’s not every day you meet a queen.”

Carey’s tweet is a much more direct endorsement of Clinton than she has ever given before. In a 2016 interview, she demurred from giving the Democrat her full support. “It’s so hard because I’m just an entertainer,” Carey told TV host Andy Cohen at the time. “I’m not a political analyst. So I don’t want to be vocal about my true feelings about all of this, but I have them.”

Can’t let go

Despite her election loss, Clinton hasn’t totally faded from politics. The Democrat continues to rail against Donald Trump and weigh in on a range of political issues. This weekend, Clinton called on Republicans to pass gun control legislation following back-to-back mass shootings in Texas and Ohio.

Since her shocking election loss, Clinton has persisted in blaming an array of causes — other than her own unappealing candidacy — for her misfortune.  While the American electorate did not make her the president, Clinton continues to enjoy a devoted following among liberals, particularly celebrities and coastal elites, who never got over Donald Trump’s victory.

However, the Clintons did not receive a particularly warm welcome at a Billy Joel concert in New York last month. The power couple was noticeably booed when the piano man dedicated a song in their honor. Meanwhile, they struggled mightily to sell tickets for their ill-fated speaking tour, and a Broadway play based on their lives has not fared much better.

It seems that the Clinton legacy does indeed continue — but only in the imaginations of their most devoted supporters. The rest of the world has moved on.
