On Saturday, Kellyanne Conway addressed President Donald Trump’s tweets alleging that the Clintons were behind Jeffrey Epstein’s sudden death.
Trump had shared tweets earlier Saturday linking the Clinton family to the 66-year-old Epstein, who was found dead in his jail cell that morning. Conway told Fox that Trump wants “everything” to be investigated and suggested that newly released documents implicate the Clintons in Epstein’s sex ring, according to the New York Post.
”The president just wants everything to be investigated,” Conway said on Fox News Sunday. “There is some unsealed information implicating some people very high up… I’m not saying anything beyond that. But I will say that there’s always this rush to say, ‘We need transparency, we need accountability,’ when it involves fictional accusations like collusion with Russia to swing an election.”
Conway defends Trump’s tweets
The Trump adviser didn’t fold Sunday when pressed on her boss’ retweets alleging that the Clintons were involved in Epstein’s death — tweets that included the hashtags “#ClintonBodyCount” and “#ClintonCrimeFamily,” according to The Washington Examiner.
Conway suggested that any alleged link between Trump and Epstein is spurious, but that the same is not true of Clinton. Epstein was an associate of both men in the past.
“Trying to connect the president to this monster from years ago, where they’re seen dancing in a video versus other people who were actively, I suppose, flying around with this monster on his island…perhaps there’s a public interest in knowing more about that,” Conway said.
Conway appeared to refer to a video from 1992 that shows Trump — a former friend and neighbor of Epstein’s in the Palm Beach, Florida social scene — socializing with the multimillionaire financier and dancing at a party at Mar-a-Lago, according to NBC News. For his part, Clinton flew on Epstein’s private jet, the “Lolita Express,” several times, and Epstein reportedly visited the White House when Clinton was president.
Newly unsealed documents show that Trump was on Epstein’s jet once in 1997 — apparently less frequently than Clinton, who was on it for as many as six trips. Conservative media and Republicans have long alleged that Clinton was among Epstein’s friends who partook in his depraved sex ring. But like all of Epstein’s former friends, both Clinton and Trump have distanced themselves from the money manager.
Conway also pointed to newly unsealed documents from an Epstein accuser last week, which mentioned two Democrats associated with Clinton, although she declined to name names: former Sen. George Mitchell, who passed on a SCOTUS nomination from Clinton, and Bill Richardson, a former Clinton cabinet official. The accuser named the two men in a 2016 deposition as being among Epstein’s friends who allegedly abused her when she was an underage girl.
Kellyanne wants answers
A day after the documents were unsealed, Epstein was found dead from an apparent suicide. But the strange circumstances of his demise, and his connections with the global elite, have led many to question the official story. Many have balked at reports that Epstein was taken off suicide watch just weeks after an apparent suicide attempt, and that Epstein’s guards apparently failed to check up on him the night before his death.
Mainstream media outlets have maintained that Epstein’s death was self-inflicted, despite the bizarre circumstances. For her part, Conway took a veiled jab at the mainstream media for promoting the “fictional” Russia collusion conspiracy, which she said was different from the “concrete” evils of Epstein.
”This seems to be very concrete in that Jeffrey Epstein has done some very bad things over a number of years,” she said. “So let’s continue to investigate that.”
Conway also noted that Attorney General William Barr is conducting an investigation into Epstein’s death and said that she couldn’t comment further, but suggested that the investigation into Epstein’s crimes will continue.
“I don’t think that somebody’s crimes and the accountability for that necessarily perishes with their death,” she said. “I think this is the ultimate macabre episode to a man who clearly was an evil monster doing terrible things to young girls.”
