Another month, another dismal jobs report for America under the leadership of President Joe Biden and his administration.
Fox Business reports that the Labor Department just released the latest jobs report for the month of November, and the numbers, once again, were well below expectations.
The numbers
According to the Labor Department’s report, the United States only saw an increase in U.S. jobs by 210,000 during the month of November.
To put this number into perspective, experts were expecting an addition of around 550,000 new jobs in November. And, To further put this number into perspective, Fox Business reports that 210,000 is “the worst month for job creation so far this year.”
So, once again, the U.S. economy, under Biden, has come up significantly short. And, this time, the shortcoming comes after it appeared that the U.S. economy was actually gaining some momentum in September and October.
The worry now, of course, is that the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus, which world leaders, including Biden, are already reacting to with measures such as travel bans, may send the U.S. economy spiraling even further. We’ll see.
Psaki’s spin
By now, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has had a lot of practice spinning poor job reports from the Labor Department. This, however, doesn’t mean she has gotten any better at it.
On Friday, Psaki was confronted with the poor findings of the job report during an appearance on MSNBC. Psaki began by claiming that she could not comment on the report.
“Well, I know this sounds a little archaic, but I can’t comment on them until 9:30, by rules, because I work at the White House,” she said.
Psaki, however, went on to try to claim that the “trends” are headed in the right direction. She said:
What I will say is people can expect the president to continue to say, today, month to month, is that what we’re seeing are good trends, that we are continuing to put people back to work, that we are continuing to see participation in the workforce, that we are continuing to see the unemployment rate go down, but there’s more we need to do to address core problems that have existed long before the pandemic.
Psaki, during her appearance, also repeated the dubious claim that Biden’s $2 trillion Build Back Better Act, which has yet to make it through Congress, would lower the cost of a variety of things, thereby addressing Americans’ concerns about inflation.
