Trooper claims ex-New York Gov. Cuomo was caught ‘making out’ with married aide

Although he was forced to resign in disgrace earlier this year, new allegations continue to surface against former Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

This week, a state police bodyguard claimed that Cuomo and his top aide Melissa DeRosa made out in public while he was governor.

“Like high schoolers”

That revelation came during sworn testimony the trooper offered regarding Cuomo’s alleged harassment toward her. New York Attorney General Letitia James released a portion of those transcripts this week.

Cuomo and DeRosa, who was married, could be seen “making out on the sidewalk like high schoolers,” the trooper claimed in response to questions about what she observed during her time working for the governor.

Although DeRosa is not directly named in the transcripts, she is referred to as Senior Staffer #1, according to sources familiar with the situation.

James’ office conducted the probe that revealed evidence supporting allegations that Cuomo harassed as many as 11 women — nine of whom were current or former state employees — during his time in the governor’s mansion.

Cuomo resigned under threat of impeachment a short time after James released the report, but he has continued to maintain his innocence. As part of his public defense, the ex-governor has pointed out that James is planning her own gubernatorial bid and that the allegations against him were rooted in politics.

“They’re sleeping there”

For her part, the trooper noted that she did not directly observe any inappropriate interactions between Cuomo and DeRosa but was merely reporting what she heard from another source.

She went on to allege that DeRosa and another staffer were “practically living” at the governor’s mansion during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“They were there from basically March [2020] until that article about the trooper dating [redacted] came out,” she said. “If they’re not leaving, you know, they’re sleeping there.”

Her statement appeared to be a reference to another trooper who received a transfer after Cuomo discovered he had been dating Cuomo’s daughter.

Cuomo, who was single at the time, had been at the center of prior rumors about his dating life — but it was the more serious allegations of sexual misconduct that prompted the intensifying pressure that ultimately forced him out of office.
