Republican congressman says Biden border policies have provided ‘a boon for the cartels’

President Joe Biden’s reckless indifference to the welfare of the American people is illustrated nowhere more clearly than in his open borders policies.

This week, Republican Rep. John Katko (NY) spoke to Sunday Morning Futures about the cost in American lives of the deadly fentanyl that he says is pouring across the border on Biden’s watch.

Drug overdose deaths up 28%

Drug overdose deaths hit a record of 100,000 this year, The Washington Post reports, a 28.5% annual increase, driven largely by the massive volume of fentanyl flooding American communities. The synthetic opioid claimed more than 60,000 lives.

Biden has offered little beyond cheap words as a solution, recently declaring, “We cannot overlook this epidemic of loss.” But Biden is “not doing anything” to mitigate the crisis, Katko told Fox News.

Indeed, Biden has seemingly done everything possible to stoke the border crisis, which has seen an unrelenting invasion of migrants pour into the country. The Mexican cartels that supply the drug are taking advantage of the porous border, Katko said.

“When the president opened up the border last year and allowed people to flow into this country, it was a boon for the cartels,” he said, according to Fox.

“One thing cartels know: When the border is secure, it’s much more difficult for them to get the drugs across,” the congressman added. “When it’s not secure, it’s a piece of cake for them. And that’s what we’re seeing now.”

Chaos at the border

It’s not just rhetoric: the volume of fentanyl coming into the country from Mexico has increased dramatically on Biden’s watch, jumping from roughly 4,800 pounds in 2020 to more than 11,000 pounds during Biden’s first year, according to government data.

That’s enough to kill the entire U.S. population seven times over, Katko noted.

In Syracuse, New York, the area Katko represents, 14 people overdosed in one day recently, Fox reported. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that every town in America is on the border in Biden’s America, he said.

“Really every state and every city is a border state and city now because of what’s happening with these drugs coming into our country and the illegal aliens coming in, that are that are involved in criminal conduct,” Katko said, according to Fox.

Illegal border crossings also hit a record of nearly 2 million this year, but that hasn’t stopped Biden from pledging to give millions of taxpayer dollars to the families of illegal immigrants — more than Gold Star families and the relatives of 9/11 victims receive.
