Report: Wisconsin election officials facing charges over allegations of fraud at care facilities

Ever since the 2020 election, Democrats have vehemently insisted that Donald Trump’s charges of voter fraud are false, using the term “the big lie” to disparage anyone with doubts the race was fair.

Now, however, election officials in one of the most closely contested battleground states are facing criminal charges for facilitating fraud at residential care facilities, Just the News reports.

The sheriff of Wisconsin’s Racine County, Cristopher Schmaling, brought the charges after the state’s attorney general failed to look into the matter.

According to Just the News, Margaret Bostelmann, Julie Glancey, Ann Jacobs, Dean Knudson, and Mark Thomsen, all members of the Wisconsin Election Commission (WEC), are facing two felonies and three misdemeanors each, including misconduct in public office and election fraud.

The charges center on the WEC’s decision to ignore the Special Deputy voting process, which by law, requires municipal clerks to help residents fill out ballots in person.

Instead, the WEC voted 5–1, citing the coronavirus, to allow ballots to be mailed in. The families of nine residents at the Ridgewood Care Facility have raised concerns that their loved ones were not capable of voting and were manipulated by care workers.

Ridgewood trusted its staff to advise residents based on their past voting preferences, a woman named Judy, whose mother was at the facility, was told.

According to Just the News, Judy said she contacted Ridgewood after learning her mother, who had poor eyesight and “diminished mental capacity,” had voted absentee before her death in October 2020.

Doubts linger over election

Ridgewood’s policy meant that a resident with a vague memory of casting a ballot for John F. Kennedy in 1960 could have been nudged to vote Democrat, said Sgt. Michael Luell, who investigated the matter, according to FOX6 News in Milwaukee.

He also found that more residents than average voted in the 2020 election. “VH would ask her own son, who are you? She couldn’t even recognize her own son. And she, she happened to vote in two elections in 2020, but no other elections,” Luell said, according to FOX6.

Sheriff Schmaling told FOX6 that election laws were “in fact not just broken, but shattered by members of the Wisconsin Elections Commission.”

Biden’s victory in Wisconsin by about 20,000 votes was one of his narrowest, and provided critical electoral votes to pave a path to the White House.
