According to a new report, Democrat Terry McAuliffe, the man who just lost the race for Virginia’s governorship, may end up joining the Biden administration.
Where else would you send a failed political candidate?
What we know:
The report comes from Punchbowl News.
“The Biden administration is interested in finding a spot somewhere for Terry McAuliffe according to multiple high-level sources familiar with the White House’s thinking,” the outlet writes.
Punchbowl News goes on to report that it is not McAuliffe himself but rather the Biden administration that is pushing the idea.
“All Cabinet spots are full, for now. And McAuliffe isn’t asking for a job,” the outlet writes. “This seems to be the administration trying to find a place where McAuliffe can serve.”
“Talks have not yet started at all, but the administration is keen on finding a place for him, multiple sources tell us,” the outlet adds.
Background
This comes after McAuliffe lost Virginia’s governorship to Republican Glenn Youngkin in a high-profile matchup. McAuliffe lost the race despite the fact that the Democrats, led by President Joe Biden, poured resources into getting him elected. At the end of the day, though, the people of Virginia said no to McAuliffe.
McAuliffe was trying for his second term as governor. McAuliffe’s campaign was, essentially, Biden’s agenda, which is one of the reasons why people are saying that the people of Virginia with their selection of Youngkin rejected Biden’s agenda.
McAuliffe is a high-profile Democrat with many years in high-level politics, and many connections with the Biden administration. As Breitbart reports, McAuliffe has close ties to both Bill and Hillary Clinton, and the Biden administration already has many Clinton associates in it.
The outlet reports that “McAuliffe co-chaired Bill Clinton’s 1996 presidential campaign and even guaranteed a $1.35 million mortgage for Hillary’s house in New York, where the failed presidential candidate lived during her senate term in 2000.” The outlet adds that, “in 2008, McAuliffe chaired Hillary’s failed 2008 presidential campaign.
McAuliffe has yet to comment on Punchbowl News’s report. But, based on what we’ve seen from him, it is very likely that if the Biden administration does find a job for him, he’ll take it.
