Harris forks out hundreds on French cookware as Americans grapple with rising prices

As Americans continue to grapple with rising prices brought about by skyrocketing inflation and problems in the supply chain, Vice President Kamala Harris is showing just how out of touch she really is with it all.

According to Fox News, the vice president was said to have shelled out nearly $600 on some pricey French cookware at a famous boutique store during her recent diplomatic trip to Paris.

The trip to France was ostensibly meant to patch up America’s relationship with its oldest ally after it was damaged by President Joe Biden’s blundering secret submarine deal with Australia, which undermined a prior agreement between that nation and France.

Harris’ shopping spree

The vice president’s shopping spree was first reported by The Washington Free Beacon, which noted that Harris had spent some 516 euros — the equivalent of nearly $600 at current exchange rates — at the high-end boutique E. Dehillerin, located just outside the famed Louvre museum.

The purchase included a $375 serving dish and a $160 frying pan, as well other assorted odds and ends, such as a porcelain egg dish, wooden spoons, and some copper cleaner to help maintain the cookware, the specialty store confirmed.

According to the Free Beacon, the purchases come not only amid economic crises here at home, but also amid a push from the Biden administration to “buy American” in order to support U.S.-based manufacturers and the economy.

Indeed, the Free Beacon pointed out that while E. Dehillerin is internationally known for its excellent — if pricey — cookware, there are several American manufacturers offering similar wares at the same or even reduced prices.

Further, for the same price, Harris could have put a 16-pound turkey on the table for at least 25 families in need this Thanksgiving, the outlet said.

Chefs, supporters defend VP

Of course, there were some who rushed to the defense of Harris and her Parisian cookware purchases.

“Buy as expensive a pot as you can afford because it really does make a difference,” one New York chef advised, according to MarketWatch.

A food journalist who spoke with MarketWatch said the brand Harris purchased is worth the money. “I have these pieces for several years now, and they have held up to all sorts of abuse,” the journalist said.

But while culinary connoisseurs may think the buys were well worth it, it’s still not a great look for Harris as Americans prepare for a particularly pricey holiday season. If she wants to help Democrats recover their faltering reputation ahead of the 2022 midterms, Harris might do better to be a little more down to earth.
