Biden celebrates Thanksgiving at billionaire’s property as Americans grapple with inflation, shortages

Guess where President Joe Biden celebrated Thanksgiving.

While the country continues to suffer from the economic crisis brought about at least in part by his own policies, President Biden decided to celebrate Thanksgiving at billionaire David Rubinstein’s Nantucket property, Fox News reports.

Biden reportedly touched down at the private equity billionaire’s Massachusetts compound on Tuesday night ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. It was part of what the White House has called a tradition for the Biden family — one they skipped last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“What message does it send?”

But as Fox notes, the arrangement has some accusing the president of being “out of touch” with everyday Americans who are currently grappling with price increases and supply shortages. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was pressed on the subject by Fox’s Peter Doocy this week.

“What message does it send to the middle-class Americans [who] President Biden says that he’s trying to help, who are struggling this week to cover the cost of the most expensive Thanksgiving ever, that the president is going to take a few days off at a billionaire’s compound in Nantucket?” Doocy asked.

As is typical, Psaki didn’t really answer the question.

That’s a “big turkey”

Instead, the president’s top spokesperson argued that “a 20-pound turkey,” which she characterized as “a pretty big turkey,” costs just $1 more this year than in 2020.

“Not to minimize that,” she hastened to add. “Any increase in prices is something the president is concerned about, as is evidenced by…his efforts to push forward on additional relief for the American people. But I just want to be clear that there are an abundance of turkeys available, [and] they’re about $1 more for a 20-pound bird, which is a huge bird if you’re feeding a very big family.”

“Dear President Biden…”

Despite her best efforts, Psaki’s insistence that prices haven’t gone up that much did little to appease Republicans. On Tuesday, the Republican National Committee (RNC) put out a statement calling Biden a “Limousine Liberal.”

“There’s perhaps no better image of a failed, out-of-touch president than Biden partying in Nantucket and pushing a monstrous spending spree as Americans go hungry because of Bidenflation,” the RNC said. “Talk about living in an alternate reality — Biden would make Marie Antoinette proud.”

According to Fox, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) had a similar message, writing a tweet: “Dear President Biden, While you are in Nantucket, enjoying your meals at a billionaire’s compound, here are the prices that Americans are paying for their Thanksgiving dinner — the most expensive one in history.”
