Actor Alec Baldwin has been hit with another round of bad press after news broke that he allegedly threatened to assault a director while working on the NBC sitcom “30 Rock.”
According to a report in Fox News, the Emmy-winning show had difficulties with the actor, including more than one threat of violence.
The New York Post reported that Baldwin allegedly threatened to assault director Adam Bernstein during the first season after the director held up his thumbs to frame a shot, which angered Baldwin.
“According to [editor Doug] Abel, Alec turned to [Bernstein] and said that if he did that one more time, he was going to assault him. And he didn’t say it with a smile on his face,” according to a new book by Mike Roe titled “The 30 Rock Book: Inside the Iconic Show, from Blerg to EGOT,”
The show was based on the idea that it would follow the lives of the writers and actors that create an NBC sketch, inspired by the real-life NBC show, “Saturday Night Live.”
Baldwin plays the part of Jack Donaghy, the Vice President of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming for General Electric, however, Baldwin in real life was not as fun off-camera, according to Roe’s book.
According to Fox News’ report, “Fellow ’30 Rock’ director Paul Feig admitted that, of everyone on the show, Baldwin was the most difficult to work with. However, he explained that had a lot to do with the fact that the actor, who was mostly a film and theater star to that point, was considered a big get for the show. “
Fox News did not immediately receive a response from representatives of either Baldwin or Bernstein when they requested comments about the allegations.
Bernstein, however, has gone on to several other major projects, including “Breaking Bad” and “Fargo” after leaving “30 Rock” just six episodes into its seven-season run.
Other allegations against Baldwin are put forward in the book including that he wanted to spend as little time on set as possible because he wasn’t sure if the risk of doing a TV sitcom would pay off.
Because of his insistence on leaving quickly, he wasn’t on board with multiple takes or scenes running long while he was on set.
“Alec is so brilliant that in two takes, you get something great. It’s just that as a director, then you go, ‘Ooh, try this,’ because I could maybe even make it ten percent greater, and he’s just like, ‘No, we got it,'” said the fellow crew member.
These allegations surface as Baldwin is suffering intense backlash over responsibility for the shooting death of the cinematographer on his current project, a western being called, “Rust.”
