A Virginia man made headlines earlier this year following his arrest at a school board meeting during which he attempted to call attention to the alleged sexual assault of his daughter in a school bathroom.
Although Loudon County school board officials initially denied there was any record of the incident, Scott Smith claims that the information was readily available.
Superintendent’s email surfaces
As the Daily Wire reported, the outraged father insisted that his daughter was brutally attacked in a girls’ restroom by a male student.
He subsequently confronted school board members about the county’s policy of allowing transgender students to use the restroom of their choice. In response, officials claimed that they were unaware of any alleged assault.
According to WTOP, Loudon Couty Public Schools Superintendent Scott Ziegler sent an email to board members on the day of the incident, advising: “The purpose of this email is to provide you with information regarding an incident that occurred at Stone Bridge HS.”
His May 28 message explained that “a female student alleged that a male student sexually assaulted her in the restroom” and that the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the claim.
County prosecutor Buta Biberaj subsequently confirmed that the 15-year-old student accused of assaulting Smith’s daughter was transferred to another school and was later charged in connection with a separate attack.
“It prioritized misguided policies”
Nevertheless, Biberaj sought to lock Smith up over his outburst at a school board meeting in June — despite his earlier campaign position opposing mass incarceration in the county.
In a statement on the matter, Smith’s attorney noted that Ziegler offered an apology to his client and confirmed what the father already suspected.
“As evidenced by subsequent events and revelations, Loudon Public Schools have been failing the parents who entrusted them to provide a safe environment for their children every day,” attorney Bill Stanley wrote. “Loudoun County Public Schools is in this situation because it prioritized misguided policies of political correctness over student safety.”
Many conservatives have been outspoken in their opposition to such bathroom policies since at least the Obama administration, which sought to provide federal protections for transgender students.
In 2016, Republican Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick proclaimed: “We will not sell out our children to the federal government. There is no compromise on this issue.”
