Sen. Rand Paul says Democrats want to ‘squeeze’ money from everyday Americans

Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul (R) said Democrats want to “squeeze” money from everyday Americans, in clear contrast with the party’s lie it only plans to raise taxes on the rich, Fox News reports.

Paul shared his concerns during an interview on Fox News on Tuesday regarding the Democrats’ $3.5 trillion progressive spending bill.

The Kentucky senator’s criticism comes as Democrats, and the White House, continue to fail to bring together the progressive and moderate wings of the party in order to keep the bill alive.

Fake accounting

“The numbers game is fake accounting. They aren’t really whittling down what they are going to spend it on,” Paul said.

The senator added: “They are just whittling down how long they are going to count the accounting period to be. So, if it costs $5 trillion over 5 years and they only count $1 trillion, then that is $1 trillion.”

“But that doesn’t make the programs small. The programs are still enormous and over time are going to add up to trillions and trillions and trillions of dollars,” Paul warned.

More than the rich

Paul also condemned the lie that the spending plan won’t affect those making under $400,000 per year. “If you look at the sifting through our bank accounts and either at $600 level or even a higher dollar level when the IRS goes through all of their bank accounts,” he said.

“All that comes in, all that comes out. 75% of that money is on people making less than $100,000 per year,” Paul added.

The battle continues

Biden’s meetings with progressive and moderates are unlikely to lead to any significant change on the details of the massive spending bill.

Instead, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) has continued to signal that he is opposed to any bill that would repeal the Hyde Amendment, a long-standing tradition that prohibits taxpayer dollars from funding abortions. The repeal remains in the current bill. Progressives want to expand Medicaid and other reforms even more.

The spending battle continues, but Paul is right. It’s clearly a lie that a multi-trillion spending bill will not impact all Americans, because it absolutely will.
