Sen. Paul takes down DHS Sec. Becerra on the issue of natural immunity versus vaccinations

Breitbart reports that Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), this week, publicly blasted Department of Health and Human Services (DHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra for his recent criticism of those who have chosen not to get vaccinated against the coronavirus because they have natural immunity from already having survived it.

In case you missed it, Becerra, went after this group of unvaccinated Americans on September 21 during an online forum that was put on by the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky.

There, Becerra referred to those who refuse to get vaccinated because they have natural immunity as “flat-earthers” who “choose to peddle fiction.” At one point, Becerra said, “Flat earthers – meet delta,” referring to one of the latest variants of the coronavirus.

Paul, himself, would be one of these “flat earthers” as he has decided not to get vaccinated against the coronavirus because he has natural immunity from already surviving it.

“Are you a doctor?”

Paul’s face-to-face blasting of Bacerra came during a recent Senate Health, Education, Labor, and pensions Committee hearing. Paul began by asking Becerra whether he was aware of an Israeli study that found that those vaccinated against the coronavirus were “seven times more likely to get infected with COVID than the people who had gotten COVID naturally.”

After Becerra said that he was not, Paul went on the offensive. He said:

I think you might want to be if you’re going to travel the country insulting the millions of Americans, including NBA star Jonathan Isaac, who have had COVID, recovered, look at a study with 2.5 million people, and say, well, you know what, it looks like my immunity is as good as a vaccine or not. In a free country, maybe [people] ought to be able to make that decision.

Paul went on to say that he finds what Becerra said “very insulting,” adding, “it goes against the science.” Then, Paul asked Becerra, “are you a doctor or a medical doctor?”

After Becerra replied, “I’ve worked over 30 years on health policy,” Paul said:

You’re not a medical doctor. Do you have a science degree? And yet you travel the country, calling people ‘flat earthers’ who have had COVID, looked at studies of millions of people and made their own personal decision, that their immunity they naturally acquired is sufficient. You alone are on high and you’ve made these decisions. A lawyer with no scientific background, no medical degree.

Paul went on to describe Becerra as “arrogance coupled with an authoritarianism,” which he said, “is unseemly and un-American.”

Paul said:

Quit lying to people about naturally acquired immunity. Quit lording it over people, acting as if these people are deplorable and unwashed. Try persuasion instead of government cudgels. Try humility instead of arrogance. Try freedom instead of coercion. Most of all, try understanding there is no more basic medical right than deciding what we inject into our bodies.

Unapologetic

Paul has become known for these swift takedowns. He has probably been the most outspoken congressman with regard to the coronavirus and the false narrative that the left has pushed in order to push authoritarian measures on the American people.

The thing with people like Becerra, though, is that they don’t care. When asked if he would like to apologize for his comments about those with natural immunity, Beccera said that he would not.
