Many Americans have grown accustomed to reading of violence and vandalism perpetrated by extremists associated with the group known as Antifa.
According to Fox News, the radicals struck again this week, menacing some Texas college students as they held a candlelight prayer vigil.
Young conservatives targeted
The harassment reportedly occurred on Monday evening at the University of North Texas (UNT) campus located in Denton, a city roughly 40 miles north of Dallas.
Young Conservatives of Texas and its UNT chapter founder, Kelly Neidert, organized the candlelight vigil as a pro-life event.
Roughly 20 people are said to have attended, but they quickly found themselves outnumbered by opponents who numbered in the hundreds.
Neidert later described being physically threatened by the leftist counter-demonstrators, many of whom also chanted obscene and blasphemous slogans. Fox News reported that Neidert had previously been the target of online harassment.
“They harassed us”
Fox carried footage of the mob chanting “F*** your God,” while one woman reportedly screamed through a megaphone that she enjoys sacrificing children.
“They harassed us, they were throwing things at us,” Neidert recalled, according to Fox. “They were chanting things. They brought all sorts of instruments that they were playing to drown out whatever we were saying. They brought their megaphones, they brought whistles.”
Neidert went on: “I think they just really hate anybody who doesn’t agree with everything that they believe… And they just really don’t know how to cope with other people who have different beliefs.”
College shrugs it off
The disruption appears to have been coordinated online, with a Twitter account belonging to the Antifa-affiliated John Brown Gun Club warning its supporters that “fascists are organizing in your area.” The tweet added:
Tonight the young conservatives have invited groyper influencers [and] white nationalists such as Lance Johnston to a pro life “vigil” in supporting christo-fascist abortion legislation.
For her part, UNT spokesperson Leigh Anne Gullett provided a statement to Fox News that seemed to downplay the confrontation’s significance.
“A few hundred students with opposing views gathered on campus Monday evening to exercise their free speech rights,” Gullett said. “The gathering ended without incident.”
