President Joe Biden’s popularity has been plummeting lately based on his administration’s response to various issues, including Afghanistan, COVID-19 vaccines, immigration, and the economy.
Now, Breitbart reports that a new poll found his support among Democrats in the swing state of New Hampshire has been slipping significantly over the past several months.
In fact, the University of New Hampshire survey found that almost half of the state’s Democrats want to see a primary challenger take on the president ahead of the 2024 election.
Support drops 12 points since July
This poll is just the latest sign that the American public is growing increasingly disillusioned with Biden, whose support among independents has cratered.
While his own party is generally sticking with him for now, just 37% of likely Democratic voters in New Hampshire said they plan to vote for Biden in the next presidential election — a stark 12-point drop since July. More than half say they are not sure who they will support.
By comparison, 43% of likely Republican voters said former President Donald Trump is their preferred candidate.
Meanwhile, the percentage of Democrats who want Biden to face a primary challenge has increased from 29% in July to 45% in the most recent poll.
More bad news for Biden
As for approval ratings, Biden and Trump both stand at just 34% with 53% of respondents viewing Biden unfavorably and 57% expressing an unfavorable view of Trump.
It is worth noting that Biden is still faring better than Vice President Kamala Harris, who received favorable marks from just 24% of respondents.
Despite Biden’s promise to restore normalcy and heal a divided nation, many voters seem to believe he has fallen short of that vow thus far. He has repeatedly lashed out at political opponents, particularly unvaccinated Americans, in an effort to downplay his culpability for the nation’s current woes.
It might be too soon to tell whether Democrats will turn on Biden en masse, but it increasingly appears that independents are. One recent poll found that if the 2024 election were held today, 45% of independents would support Trump compared to just 28% who would vote for Biden.
As inflation soars and supply chain disruptions threaten to negatively impact the holiday shopping season, the bad news continues to pile up for the president. Polling numbers in New Hampshire and elsewhere signal that his rhetoric is not fooling anyone but his most hardcore partisan acolytes.
