Imagine that we live in a country in which legal citizens give large sums of money to those people who break the country’s law by entering it illegally. Well, soon, you may no longer have to imagine this because it could be America.
A new report from the Wall Street Journal indicates that the Biden administration is considering giving $450,000 to each illegal border crosser that was subject to former President Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” southern border policy.
Trump instituted the “zero tolerance” policy back in 2018 in an effort to curb illegal immigration. As part of the policy, illegal aliens were placed into different holding facilities from the children that they arrived with.
More recently, the illegal aliens that were subjected to this policy have brought lawsuits against the federal government. The lawyers representing these individuals are looking to get about $3.4 million for each family subjected to the zero-tolerance policy.

Now, the Biden administration is considering a settlement that would hand out about $1 million for each family unit, or about $450,000 per person.
The Wall Street Journal reports:
The Biden administration is in talks to offer immigrant families that were separated during the Trump administration around $450,000 a person in compensation, according to people familiar with the matter, as several agencies work to resolve lawsuits filed on behalf of parents and children who say the government subjected them to lasting psychological trauma.
According to the Journal, most of the illegal aliens that were subjected to the zero-tolerance policy had family units of two. So, under the Biden administration’s plan, these families would get a little under a million dollars for illegally crossing America’s border.
“Political lunacy”
Republicans are already pointing to just how bad of an idea this is.
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AZ) put out a statement saying:
It would be unthinkable to pay damages to a burglar who broke into your home for the ‘psychological trauma’ they endured during the crime. And yet the Biden administration wants to reward migrants who illegally entered our country with up to $450,000 each for just that reason. The Biden administration’s promises of citizenship and entitlement programs have already caused the worst border crisis in history — a huge cash reward will make it even worse. This is the height of insanity.
Similarly, the Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlsen referred to the Biden administration’s idea as the “high-water mark of political lunacy.” Carlson noted that the sum that the Biden administration wants to give to these illegal aliens is greater than what many of the victims of 9/11 received.
Altogether, it is believed that the Biden administration’s plan here would cost about $1 billion.
And, that $1 billion would come from you, the law-abiding taxpayer.
