Progressive Rep. Tlaib rejects infrastructure vote: ‘Hell no’

Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib reportedly told House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Thursday, “Hell no,” to a new push to pass the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill before the Senate passes the left’s spending bill.

The reported event took place as Tlaib was leaving the Progressive Caucus meeting Thursday.

Progressive Infighting

Tlaib is one of several progressive House members who oppose a vote on infrastructure until the Senate passes the president’s spending bill. The massive spending act continues to be opposed by Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), in addition to all Senate Republicans.

The smaller infrastructure bill has already passed in the Senate, but Tlaib and others plan to hold out until the Senate moves forward with the spending bill.

The all or nothing approach has angered Pelosi and other Democrats who are looking to salvage at least one win before the end of the year.

The “Legislative Text”

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), the leader of the Progressive Caucus, said Thursday she wants to see the legislative text before making a decision.

“The first step is we’ve gotta see the legislation,” she said before revealing “there are too many ‘no’ votes for the BIF [bipartisan infrastructure bull] to pass” on Thursday.

Jayapal continues to push for the passing of Biden’s full spending agenda.

“We’ll pass critical funding for roads and bridges but we won’t leave behind long-overdue investments in the care economy, climate action, housing, health care, and immigration,” she tweeted.

The battle will now continue at least until November, marking a full year since Biden was elected president without his Build Back Better agenda moving forward.
