The Hill’s Joe Concha weighed in on the approval rating of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in an opinion editorial published by the website, pointing out that her approval is about “20 points underwater.”
Concha’s editorial, titled “Who’s the boss? Pelosi’s legacy sealed after kowtowing to ‘the Squad’” points out the strange effect the far left progressives have had on Pelosi’s decades’ long career in the House of representatives.
The journalist pointed to several examples of how despite two-thirds of Americans thinking unfavorably about the career politician, Pelosi is constantly praised in the mainstream media.
At the top of Concha’s list was the strange inability of Pelosi to bring together Democrats and moderates behind the $3.5 trillion spending bill.
“The largest spending bill in U.S. history includes billions for actual infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, rail and power grids. These items have bipartisan support and solid approval from American voters,” Concha pointed out, going into detail about just some of what the bill funds:
“But the bill also earmarks billions for things that have nothing to do with actual infrastructure, including nearly $79 billion for the IRS to expand tax enforcement, $3 billion for a tree-planting program ‘with a priority for projects that increase tree equity,’ along with an additional $4 billion for ‘neighborhood access and equity grants.'”
“It has an ‘electric vehicle charging equity program’ for the low, low price of $1 billion, along with $7.5 billion for the launch of the ‘Civilian Climate Corps.’ Throw in free community college, Medicare expansion, universal pre-kindergarten and free family leave, and you have a progressive utopia, all in the hands of the U.S. government.”
However, the contention has come into play when discussing how the bill will be funded. Both Pelosi and President Joe Biden have said on the record that the monumental bill will cost Americans “zero dollars,” a claim that many, including the Washington Post fact-checkers, have zero faith in.
That’s not to mention moderates, such as Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) who have flat refused to be part of the mammoth bill that will put as yet undetermined stress on the United States economy.
However, progressives such as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT.) and “the Squad” – Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D-MN.), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) are strongly in support of the bill, and its linked spending legislation.
According to Concha, the division among the House and Senate, moderate and progressive Democrats may have sealed the fate of Democrats’ control over Congresspeople, glowing media reports, notwithstanding.
“Big picture: Democrats just guaranteed that they’ll lose the House and Senate in 2022, which would likely guarantee the end of the 81-year-old Pelosi’s political career,” Concha said.
“The old saying is that we’re only remembered for what we do last. In Nancy Pelosi’s case, it may well be her inability to bring the party together on infrastructure.”
