President Joe Biden’s strict COVID-19 vaccine mandates continue to receive widespread pushback from Americans from all walks of life.
Most recently, dozens of federal employees joined forces to take the president to court over the coercive order.
“Science is nuanced”
According to the Washington Examiner, the lawsuit calls for Biden’s “illegal and unnecessarily broad and wide-ranging program” to be blocked by a judge.
An executive order announced last month will require federal workers to prove their vaccine status by Nov. 22 or face termination. The latest lawsuit argues that the move is a violation of civil rights protections.
Under existing statutes, employers can only make inquiries related to disabilities if they have a “reasonable” belief, based on an individual assessment, that a worker has a condition that poses a discrete threat to others. Biden’s sweeping mandate, critics assert, makes such assessments impossible.
The lawsuit states that although the “science is nuanced,” Biden’s “rigid” mandate treats unvaccinated workers as an inherent threat to colleagues.
For his part, the president has consistently depicted unvaccinated Americans as a root cause for the continued spread of COVID-19 throughout America in recent months.
“Longstanding statutory prohibitions”
Citing a speech Biden gave last month in which he claimed that vaccinated workers need to be “protected from” unvaccinated coworkers, the suit claims he is also violating “longstanding statutory prohibitions against inoculations with unlicensed vaccines.”
Contrary to the president’s rhetoric, the lawsuit argues that vaccinated Americans continue to pose a threat of spreading the virus. Furthermore, Biden’s mandate ignores the role that natural immunity can play among individuals how have contracted and recovered from COVID-19.
Nevertheless, Biden has continued to increase the pressure on American workers and even pointed to mass firings as a sign of progress — despite his earlier proclamation that he would not support a federal mandate.
His push for mandatory vaccinations has also been pursued by various private companies, which critics say has relegated millions of unvaccinated citizens to second-class status.
Making matters worse, the mandates and threats of widespread terminations come amid what experts are calling the Great Resignation, which has left companies in all sectors of the economy struggling to fill labor shortages.
