Exhaustive search for Brian Laundrie leads to discovery of deceased Texas man

After it was reported earlier this month that Brian Laundrie, the boyfriend and person of interest in the homicide case involving Gabby Petito, law enforcement authorities at all levels launched a massive manhunt for Laundrie.

While they haven’t located Laundrie yet, according to the Washington Examiner, the search took yet another bizarre twist when searchers found the body of Robert Lowery, a 46-year-old Houston man who was reported missing on Aug. 20.

Lowery’s body was discovered on a slope at the base of Wyoming’s Teton Pass.

Tragic discovery

Specifically, the body of the Houston man was found at the Black Canyon Trail in Bridger-Teton National Forest, which happens to be in the same area where Petito’s body was discovered earlier this month.

Authorities haven’t indicated whether they believe there’s any connection, but given the date of Lowery’s reported disappearance, it’s unlikely.

Lowery, who traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyoming from his home state of Texas on Aug. 19, was reported to be a father of two.

Dog joins the hunt

The search for Laundrie, who disappeared on Sept. 14, has intensified in past days, even drawing the attention of Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman, who recently joined the search, vowing to use his platform and contacts to locate the missing man.

According to Fox News on Wednesday, Chapman reportedly contracted a private K9 search team to scour Egmont Key, an island just off the coast of St. Petersburg, Florida, where many believe Laundrie could be hiding out.

Chapman made the announcement of his hiring of the K9 team on Twitter, saying in a video, “We’re out here at the island,” adding, “This would be and could be a perfect spot for him to hide, not too many people out here.”

Likely due to Chapman’s extreme popularity, he recently told Fox News that he’s received a number of promising leads as far as where to search for Laundrie.

Another weird twist

Also this week, Chapman confirmed to Fox News that he received information indicating that Laundrie and his parents checked into Fort De Soto Park for a camping trip earlier this month, just days prior to Petito’s mother reporting her missing.

“Allegedly, what we’re hearing, is two people left on the 8th. Three people came in on the 6th, and two people left on the 8th. I think he’s been here for sure,” Chapman said.
