Biden vows to ‘work like hell’ to get bills passed, then leaves for Delaware vacation

President Joe Biden recently boasted of how hard he is working to save his stalled legislative agenda. However, while his words suggest one thing, his actions indicate something else.

That was evident from remarks that the president gave to reporters on Saturday about negotiations over his proposed $3.5 trillion spending bill, and according to Fox News, the president slipped off to Delaware after failing to garner support for his legislation on Capitol Hill Friday, even after vowing to “work like hell” to make it happen.

Serious division

“I’m going to try to sell what I think the American people will buy,” Biden said, according to Minneapolis’ ABC 5. “I believe that when the American people are aware of what’s in it we’ll get it done.”

“Everybody’s frustrated, it’s part of being in government, being frustrated,” the president continued, likely referencing the displeasure that many in his party have with moderate Sens. Krysten Sinema (D-AZ) and Joe Manchin (D-WV).

Manchin has balked at the size of the bill while also insisting that it contain the Hyde Amendment, a rule limiting taxpayer funding for abortion.

“Now Democratic congressional leaders propose to pass the largest single spending bill in history with no regard to rising inflation, crippling debt or the inevitability of future crises,” Manchin wrote in a Wall Street Journal op-ed last month.

Sinema has been attacked by radical members of the Democratic Party, with Fox News reporting that on Sunday activists cornered her in a bathroom at Arizona State University.

Another vacation?

Given that the legislation has little hope of passing unless a compromise can be reached with Manchin and Sinema, it makes sense that Biden would say that he planned to “work like hell.”

Yet as Frontpage noted, Biden immediately followed up his vow to fight by leaving the White House for a weekend getaway at his home in Wilmington, Delaware.

His trip home is far from the first time that the 78-year-old president has bolted from Washington D.C. in the midst of crisis.

As Fox News reported, Biden received significant criticism in August for taking a trip to Camp David as American troops were making their withdrawal from Afghanistan, which resulted in a catastrophic disaster for the administration.

Meanwhile, Fox News’ Sean Hannity blasted Biden last month for an earlier Delaware trip despite the unbelievable scenes that unfolded at the time at the southern U.S. border, declaring, “If he’s too weak and frail and slow to handle the job seven days a week, he should step down and retire because right now.”
