Michigan Democrats have been among the country’s most vocal supporters of mask mandates and other COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. Yet, when it comes to actually following those rules, some of them aren’t so eager.
As Breitbart reported, a number of high-ranking party members attended a wedding last week, without masks, while standing in close proximity to one another.
The information came to light on Friday when Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel tweeted out an image from the wedding that featured herself, her wife, Rep. Haley Stevens (D), and Stevens’ new husband.
“So honored to officiate the wedding of my Congressfriend @HaleyLive,” Nessel wrote. “May she and Rob have many wonderful years of love and happiness.”

Rules for thee
In the photo, all four individuals can clearly be seen not sporting a face mask. Breitbart noted that although Michigan has dropped its mask mandate, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recently begun recommending fully vaccinated individuals to resume wearing masks when in areas of “high transmission.”
“If you are fully vaccinated, to maximize protection from the Delta variant and prevent possibly spreading it to others, wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission,” the agency’s guidance states.
According to a map published by the CDC, all counties in Michigan have been designated as being areas of high transmission.
A true double standard
Nessel’s picture did not go unnoticed by Michigan Freedom Fund head Tori Sachs, who responded to the maskless image with a tweet of her own.
“Good for Democrat Rep. Haley Stevens (@HaleyLive) to not require masks at her well attended indoor wedding reception,” the tweet read. “Why, again, are kids in school required to weak masks while all these people don’t have to? #RulesForThee.”
As Breitbart pointed out, Stevens gained national prominence in March of last year via a video clip that showed her wearing a set of pink gloves while yelling that Americans need to “take the disease seriously.”
This is far from being the first time that powerful Democrats have been caught disregarding the restrictions they ask others to abide by.
Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser was caught maskless at a wedding earlier this summer, while, according to the New York Post, former President Barack Obama received criticism over the number of unmasked people who attended his recent birthday party.
