The Fox News Channel just blew the competition out of the water in the third quarter of 2021.
Nielsen Media Research just released its cable news viewership numbers for the third quarter of 2021, and the Fox News Channel came out on top, while its liberal competitors experienced significant setbacks.
“79 straight quarters”
Fox celebrated its victory in a press release that it published on Tuesday.
“FOX News Channel (FNC) completed the most recent quarter of 2021 as the most-watched network in all of basic cable with total day and primetime viewers, marking FNC’s 25th anniversary delivering its highest-rated quarter of the year in both total viewers and the coveted 25-54 demo,” the outlet reported.
Fox says that the Fox News Channel, with this third quarter victory, has now notched “79 straight quarters as the leading cable news channel with total viewers.” The outlet adds that the Fox News Channel “also ranked number one in all of basic cable for the seventh consecutive quarter and won every single weekday hour with double and triple digit percent advantages.”
In terms of day time viewership, the Fox News Channel averaged about 1.4 million viewers during the third quarter, including 227,000 in the 25 to 54 age group. In terms of primetime viewership, the channel averaged 2.4 million viewers overall and 377,000 in the 25 to 54 age group.
September, in particular, was a successful month for the Fox News Channel. Many of its programs saw their best numbers there, including “Gutfeld!,” which actually finished the third quarter as the second highest-rated show in all of broadcast and cable.
Each of the Fox News Channel’s top progams, including “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” “Hannity,” and “The Ingraham Angle,” all finished the quarter at the top of their individual time slots.
The competition
To put it briefly, Fox’s competition was no competition. CNN and MSNBC both saw major setbacks: CNN had its lowest rated quarter for the key 25 to 54 age group since 2014, and MSNBC since 2015. CNN, though, is the outlet that has dropped off the most this year.
CNN saw a 10 percentage point dropoff from the second quarter in overall viewership and a 20 percentage point dropoff among those in the 25-54 age group. It saw similar dropoffs with its primetime coverage.
And, in contrast to Fox, CNN’s programs struggled in September. It was a similar story, here, for MSNBC.
So, the bottom line is that the liberals are either not watching their outlets or they are watching Fox. Considering that former President Donald Trump is no longer around to beat up on and literally nothing good is happening under President Joe Biden’s leadership, it is not that surprising that noone’s tuning in.
