The outcome of last November’s presidential election left many Americans with nagging concerns over how the votes were counted. And the findings of a new report certainly aren’t bolstering their confidence.
A new analysis from the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) found that some 15 million vote-by-mail ballots were ultimately unaccounted for nationwide after the 2020 election, Breitbart reported Saturday.
Speaking with Breitbart News Saturday, PILF president J. Christian Adams said federal records obtained by his group revealed that huge numbers of ballots mailed to voters ahead of Election Day 2020 went “missing,” were rejected, or were returned to state officials as undeliverable.
It’s a sign of disorganization, Adams said, that resulted from sweeping changes made to state election laws meant to accommodate amid concerns over COVID-19.
“They’re just gone”
“This is the worst way to run an election, what they did in 2020,” Adams told Breitbart’s Washington political editor, Matt Boyle, during the Saturday radio show.
“The Election Assistance Commission, which is a federal agency…puts out a report every two years,” the conservative activist explained. “One of the things it has…is the number of mail ballots that were sent out, the number of mail ballots that came back, and the number of mail ballots that were straight-up rejected, meaning the election officials said there was a defect.
“This is not data that we are speculating about,” Adams emphasized. “This is federal data, and that’s where we get the 15 million number.”
Adams said at least 15 million ballots were sent to voters “in the mail last year that never ever came back and were counted.” Some of those ballots, he said, “we don’t know where they are, they’re just gone.”
“That tells you the system broke down,” Adams told Breitbart. “That tells you that probably ballots came back that were counted for the wrong people. The whole thing is a mess. It can’t be repeated again.”
“The problem with mail balloting”
According to Adams, the discrepancies make clear “the problem with mail balloting. We’re giving the idiots at the post office control over our government.”
The PILF chief also said the figure of 15 million ballots is almost certainly an undercount, since some states opted not to provide the Election Assistance Commission with data. “This is all voluntary, so a lot of states never reported the number of screwups they made, how many ballots disappeared, how many ballots were rejected that came back in the mail,” he told Boyle, according to Breitbart.
Adams was most concerned by ballots classified as “undeliverable” or “rejected.” The high numbers, he claimed, prove “the voter rolls are a mess.” And that’s apparently true from coast to coast.
