Nearly two years after U.S. and allied military forces ousted the terror group from power, the Taliban once again appears poised to take over in Afghanistan and reinstate some horrific practices.
According to recent reports, members of the organization have seized control of certain areas and are actively abducting girls as young as 12 years old to become sex slaves.
“A strong voice against the most powerful abusers”
Militants are believed to be compiling lists of females under the age of 45 who can be forced into Taliban marriages.
Of course, such abductions are not the only threat that Afghan women and girls are likely to encounter as the nation falls further into the grip of the terrorist regime. Experts warn that women in positions of political power could be in danger.
Farkhunda Zahra Naderi, a member of Afghanistan’s High Council for National Reconciliation, declared that women “who have been a strong voice against the most powerful abusers” could face retribution as the Taliban reasserts its power.
Meanwhile, divorced women in the country could also face persecution, as one such individual fears.
“When I turned 20, my family married me to a man we didn’t know very well,” the woman explained. “But it wasn’t a good match, and we divorced seven years later.”

She and her roommate now share a small home in the nation’s capital — and both say that if the city falls under Taliban control, they would rather commit suicide than be taken alive by the militant forces.
Some current and former U.S. officials are placing the blame for the recent upheaval on the Biden administration’s handling of a troop withdrawal.
During a Fox News Channel appearance on Thursday, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo argued that the Trump administration provided “models of deterrence” to keep the Taliban in check while the current administration is effectively abandoning Afghanistan.
“Looks like they have not been able to execute this,” he said. “Strategy depends on planning and execution. Looks like there’s a bit of panic.”
Following reports that thousands of U.S. troops will be returning to Afghanistan in a bid to safely evacuate staff from the U.S. embassy, Pompeo said he hold out “hope that they have the right number of folks and get them there quickly,” thus protecting American citizens “in the way the Trump administration had every intention of doing.”
