Democrats across the U.S. continue to deny or downplay the threats posed by an ongoing immigration crisis on the nation’s southern border.
For her part, U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne (D-IA) claimed that undocumented immigrants are not causing an increased spread of COVID-19 because they are “1,30 miles away” from American communities.
“That’s not even a reality”
At the same time, she criticized American citizens who are not following the Biden administration’s guidelines for reducing the current rate of infection.
According to Breitbart, her remarks on the topic came during an appearance on the Let’s Talk Guthrie County podcast.
“If people 1,300 miles away are infecting us with COVID, then we’ve got a bigger problem than I thought,” she asserted. “That’s not even a reality. We all know that COVID can’t travel like that, and we all know as you mentioned, folks are literally being detained at the border.”
Of course, reports show that COVID-positive migrants are in fact being released in various communities, courtesy of the Biden administration. Even the Department of Homeland Security reports that 20% of unaccompanied minors and 18% of families entering the country illegally have tested positive for COVID-19.
Nevertheless, Axne claimed that it is “so disingenuous” for critics to say that migrants are responsible for at least part of the latest spike in the pandemic.
“They are the ones who are spreading it”
She then pivoted to pointing the finger at Americans who refuse to receive a vaccination or wear a mask.
“What we need are people in our own communities who won’t get the vaccination to get the vaccination because they are the ones who are spreading it,” the Iowa Democrat said.
As the school year starts across the U.S., she declared that she “can’t blame” parents who are nervous about sending their children back to school.
“It’s very scary to know that your child is being exposed to a dangerous pandemic because unfortunately others won’t wear masks or get vaccinated,” Axne said. “So, I’d have to look into their own community, because it’s certainly not coming from 1,300 miles away.”
Axne appears to be following the lead of other Democratic leaders in declaring undocumented immigrants effectively exempt from the draconian mandates and restrictions pushed on American citizens.
