Experts say when one has Alzheimer’s or dementia, one can revert back to previous behaviors and mindsets without realizing it.
That explanation may be the most charitable one for President Joe Biden, who called Black adviser Cedric Richmond “boy” during a Monday Hurricane Ida briefing, Breitbart reported.
“I’m here with my senior adviser and boy who knows Louisiana very, very well, man, and, and New Orleans: Cedric Richmond,” Biden said.
Biden leans on Richmond
Biden doddered his way through the briefing, asking Richmond several times what was going on.
“Cedric, who are we going to next?” he asked while speaking to various governors on the call.
The president also told those on the call that Richmond was their point person for anything they needed from the administration. “Cedric is your direct line in the White House throughout this recovery,” he said.
No one drew attention to his racial comment during the briefing, but it drew plenty of ire on social media once the video of the call was quickly spread.
Outrage ensues
GOP national spokesperson Paris Dennard pointed out on Twitter that Richmond is a 47-year-old man while adding that former President Donald Trump never called anyone a “boy,” regardless of skin color.
Lavern Spicer, a Black female congressional candidate, called Biden a “rude, condescending racist.”
How DARE Joe Biden call Cedric Richmond “boy”?
Cedric is 47 years old. He’s nobody’s boy!
What a rude, condescending RACIST!!!
You just know he wanted to call him a “N” but knew that wouldn’t go over well.
What a sick, racist man Joe is.

It’s possible that Biden’s obvious cognitive decline might have taken him back to a time, in his mind, when using such language was more common practice. It’s also just as possible that it was an innocent gaffe. We’ll let you decide.
