Tucker Carlson slams General Mark Milley over critical race theory defense

According to the Washington Examiner, during his Thursday night show, Fox News host Tucker Carlson lashed out at Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley for his defense of the teaching of critical race theory to military cadets and recruits. 

Carlson zeroed in on a viral moment of congressional testimony generated by Milley earlier in the week regarding orders from Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to address “extremism” in the military and efforts to do so through the teaching of critical race theory.

What did Milley say?

“On the issue of critical race theory, etc., a lot of us have to get much smarter on whatever the theory is. But I do think it’s important, actually, for those of us in uniform to be open-minded and be widely read,” Milley said at the time. “I want to understand white rage, and I’m white.”

Milley also compared reading critical race theory texts to reading about Communism in order to understand, not support, the idea.

“I personally find it offensive that we are accusing the United States military, our general officers, our commissioned [and] noncommissioned officers of being ‘woke,’ or something else because we’re studying some theories that are out there,” Milley added. “I’ve read Karl Marx, I’ve read Lenin, that doesn’t make me a communist.”

Carlson drops bombs

Carlson addressed Milley’s comments in a segment about the teaching of critical race theory in American schools and other institutions.

“[Milley] didn’t get that job because he’s brilliant, or because he’s brave, or because the people who know him respect him. He is not, and they definitely don’t. Milley got the job because he is obsequious. He knows who to suck up to, and he is more than happy to do it,” Tucker said.

“He’s not just a pig. He’s stupid,” Tucker said of Milley’s testimony.

 

Why CRT is dangerous

Many conservatives have taken issue with the teaching of critical race theory, which they say inaccurately portrays history and posits that institutions are somehow racist if Blacks and whites do not have equal outcomes in areas of income, educational achievement and career advancement, and incarceration rates.

“CRT weakens the public and private bonds that create trust and allow for civic engagement,” Heritage Action wrote about the highly controversial theory, adding that the focus on race will only serve to further divide Americans.

Fifteen Republican-run states have now introduced legislation to ban the teaching of critical race theory in K-12 schools as some districts begin to consider using curriculum from The New York Times‘ “1619 Project,” which many critics claim is agenda-driven and full of historical inaccuracies.
