Former President Donald Trump is now setting his sights on Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK).
Trump previously vowed to campaign against Murkowski, and, as Breitbart reports, he is now doing just that by backing a challenger to Murkowski.
Trump’s latest endorsement
On Friday, Trump announced that he was endorsing Kelly Tshibaka as a Republican primary challenger to Murkowski. Trump made the statement through his political action committee (PAC) Save America.
“Kelly is a fighter who stands for Alaska values and America First,” Trump wrote. “She is MAGA all the way, pro-energy, strong on the Border, tough on Crime, and totally supports our Military and our great Vets. Kelly is a powerful supporter of the Second Amendment and JOBS.”
Accordingly, Trump said that Tshibaka has his “complete and total endorsement,” and Trump added that he looks forward to campaigning for her.
“Murkowski has got to go”
In his endorsement, Trump also took time to go after Murkowski.
“Lisa Murkowski is bad for Alaska,” Trump wrote. “Her vote to confirm Biden’s Interior Secretary was a vote to kill long sought for, and approved, ANWR, and Alaska Jobs.”
Accordingly, Trump wrote, “Murkowski has got to go!” And, he opined that “Tshibaka is the candidate who can beat Murkowski,” adding, “and she will.”
This, of course, remains to be seen. But, Tshibaka is currently Murkowski’s top challenger, and Trump’s endorsement is extremely powerful. It, in fact, has been found that Trump’s endorsement can increase a candidate’s support by as much as 27 percent, which is staggering.
“Honored, excited, and grateful”
These are the words that Tshibaka used to express her happiness at having received Trump’s endorsement. She indicated as much in a statement that she released following Trump’s statement.
“To have his strong endorsement is great news for our campaign and even better news for the people of Alaska because it means we will be getting our Senate seat back from Lisa Murkowski,” Tshibaka wrote.
Tshibaka also went after Murkowski, saying that Murkowski is in the “twilight” of her career and that, after inheriting the position from her father, Murkowski “has become a senator for the D.C. insiders rather than the people she’s supposed to represent.”
