As partisan prosecutors in New York continue what many believe to be a fishing expedition against former President Donald Trump, he’s taking his hometown and its goofball mayor to court on another matter.
In a new lawsuit, the former president is accusing New York City of canceling contracts with a Trump-run, Bronx-based golf course for political reasons, according to the Washington Examiner.
Politics prompted cancellation
Mayor Bill de Blasio ended the contracts after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, which solidified Trump’s status as an outsider to the political class.
At the time, Trump was booted from Twitter and Facebook, and he faced retribution from banks as well in an unprecedented effort by financial and tech elites to blacklist a sitting president.
In his lawsuit, Trump accused de Blasio of harboring a well-established bias against him and said that de Blasio had “no right” to terminate the contract.
He also said that de Blasio “incited others to terminate business with Trump-related entities” and had used Jan. 6 “as a pretext” to act on his hatred of Trump.
“Mayor de Blasio’s actions are purely politically motivated, have no legal merit, and are yet another example of the mayor’s efforts to advance his own partisan agenda and interfere with free enterprise,” the Trump Organization said.
Trump faces partisan probes
For his part, de Blasio defended his move by accusing Trump of having “incited an insurrection,” a claim that has been repeated endlessly on cable news since the January riot as the mainstream media makes a concerted effort to frame the political right as a “domestic terror” threat.
“Donald Trump directly incited a deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. You do that, and you lose the privilege of doing business with the City of New York. It’s as simple as that,” a spokesperson said.
Of course, de Blasio is not the only political official in New York to regard Trump with open hostility, and Trump even relocated from the city, where he is seemingly persona non grata, to Florida during his presidency, as The Hill previously reported.
As Jan. 6 protesters suffer in solitary confinement in a Washington gulag, the Trump Organization has fallen into the crosshairs of not one, but two partisan prosecutors, which include state AG Letitia James and Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance, whose years-long probes of Trump’s finances recently converged.
The prosecutions have given Trump’s foes new hope of finally seeing him politically neutralized forever, but Trump has shown no inclination to quit.
