Report: Trump insiders say former president expects to be ‘reinstated’ within months

It hasn’t even been six months since former President Donald Trump left the White House, and already, pundits are speculating about him throwing his hat back in the ring for the presidency in 2024. But according to one journalist, the 45th president has told members of his inner circle that he expects to return to the Oval Office even sooner than that.

New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman wrote in a tweet Tuesday that “Trump has been telling a number of people he’s in contact with that he expects he will get reinstated [as president] by August.”

According to the Washington Examiner, Haberman noted in her tweet that “that isn’t how it works,” but said she’d heard the information from Trump insiders.

“Nothing more corrupt”

In a subsequent tweet, Haberman noted that Trump’s high expectations aren’t “happening in a vacuum.”

“It is happening as he faced the possibility of an indictment from the Manhattan DA,” the Times reporter said, referring to an ongoing investigation by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance. The DA’s case is occurring alongside a similar investigation out of the New York state attorney general’s office that was said to have turned into a criminal probe last month.

In a statement on his now-defunct blog responding to the news, Trump charged that “the District Attorney and Attorney General are possessed, at an unprecedented level, with destroying the political fortunes of President Donald J. Trump and the almost 75 million people who voted for him.”

“There is nothing more corrupt than an investigation that is in desperate search of a crime,” the former president added. “But, make no mistake, that is exactly what is happening here.”

“Just for the sake of it”

Trump has also released statements about ongoing reviews of the results of the 2020 race that are currently being carried out in states including Arizona and Georgia.

“Why are the Radical Left Democrats in Georgia fighting so hard that there not be a Forensic Audit of 150,000 absentee ballots in Fulton County?” the former president wrote in one brief post. “There can be only one reason, and that is because they know the vote was corrupt and the audit will show it. Republicans must fight hard and win!”

Looping back to Trump’s plans to return to the Oval Office, Haberman, for her part, said Trump “is not putting out statements about the ‘audits’ in states just for the sake of it.”

The journalist alleged in her Tuesday tweets that Trump has “been laser focused on” the audits, citing “several people who’ve spoken with him (as well as [Washington Post] reporting a few weeks ago).” Looks like he’s hoping for a last-minute miracle.
