Prominent Democrats and their cohorts in the mainstream media have loudly denounced a post-election audit currently taking place in Arizona’s Maricopa County and similar reviews of the 2020 race across the nation. But in a major blow to President Joe Biden, a new poll shows more than half of Americans actually support such efforts.
A new report from Washington Examiner columnist Paul Bedard revealed that a full 55% of voters polled by Rasmussen in a recent survey said they “back audits similar to the one in Arizona.” What’s more, just 50% of respondents said they’re totally confident that Biden won the 2020 election “fairly.”
It’s a big deal, Bedard notes, because that 50% mark falls just shy of the number of Americans who voted for Biden last November.
Bedard himself put it best: “[I]n the election, [Biden] beat former President Donald Trump 51.3% to 46.8%. Percentage-wise now, fewer think Biden won fairly than voted for him.”
Doubts remain – even among Dems
Even nearly 40% of Democrats said they support the kinds of audits like the one ongoing out of Maricopa County. Seventy-one percent of Republicans said in the same in the latest polling from Rasmussen Reports, as did 57% of unaffiliated voters.
Twenty-nine percent of voters overall told Rasmussen they don’t support the audits. Another 17% were unsure.
The poll surveyed 900 likely voters between June 20 and June 21, 2021, and had a margin of error of 3%, Rasmussen said.
It also found that some 41% of voters still have doubts about Biden’s victory last fall. It’s an an increase from a Rasmussen poll in February, which found that only about 34% of all voters doubted the integrity of the election.
And in addition to the 7 in 10 Republicans who aren’t confident in Biden’s win, nearly half of unaffiliated voters and even 10% of Democrats expressed hesitation to embrace the final election results in Rasmussen’s latest survey.
Similar findings
Notably, Rasmussen’s findings aren’t substantially different than those of a recent Politico/Morning Consult survey that also polled respondents on the Arizona audit and similar election reviews.
Speaking with nearly 2,000 registered voters from June 11-13, the pollsters found that 45% of voters either strongly (30%) or somewhat (15%) favored the audits, while 41% either strongly (29%) or somewhat (12%) opposed them.
Among supporters were 23% of Democrats, 74% of Republicans, and 40% of independents. The poll had a margin of error of 2%.
