GOP lawmakers request Harris be replaced on border crisis in signed letter to Biden

Roughly three months ago, President Joe Biden declared that Vice President Kamala Harris was the leader “most qualified” to address the “root causes” of the crisis-level surge of illegal immigrants pouring across America’s southern border.

However, according to the Daily Caller, a group of 56 House Republicans explained in a letter that the vice president’s performance, so far, has left much to be desired, and they made their ask crystal clear, telling Biden that she needs to be replaced with a more capable leader.

“Despite being in the midst of a border crisis this country has not seen in two decades, Vice President Harris has not yet shown adequate interest in observing this crisis first-hand,” the lawmakers wrote, in an effort spearheaded by Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI).

“She has yet to visit the border”

“In the 85 days since the Vice President has been tasked with solving this crisis, she has yet to visit the border and meet with Border Patrol agents, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials, and local law enforcement officials,” the large group of concerned Republicans wrote.

The lawmakers also expressed concerns that Harris — and the Biden administration — appears to be focused exclusively on the “Northern Triangle” Central American nations of Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador while ignoring the fact that illegals are arriving at the southern U.S. border from all over.

In particular, the GOP congressmen added that “we see many migrants attempting to illegally cross our southern border from countries all over the world, including Russia, Brazil, Cuba, and Haiti.”

What’s more, the Republicans argued that her habit of blaming issues like climate change and government corruption in the Central American nations for the crisis “ignores the role of policy decisions made in the first four months of your administration play in enticing migrants to illegally cross our southern border.”

Harris compared ICE agents to the KKK

The group concluded by imploring the president to find someone who is more capable of handling such a monumentally impactful crisis, writing, “This country cannot afford another minute of inaction from Vice President Harris.”

The vice president has a controversial history with regard to border-related issues, with Fox News reporting earlier this year that she once ridiculously compared ICE agents to members of the Ku Klux Klan.

Harris also made headlines when she burst into cackling laughter after being asked by a reporter in March if she planned to visit the southern U.S. border to get a firsthand look at what’s happening on the ground.

Her response drew days of sharp criticism, including from Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), who told Fox News at the time that the border crisis issue is “no laughing matter.”

Only time will tell if the vice president finds enough time in her busy schedule to visit the southern U.S. border, which would obviously go a long way in reassuring the American public that she actually cares about what’s currently happening there.
