Superstar model Chrissy Teigen is known for advocating on behalf of various left-wing social issues and has successfully — and lucratively — capitalized on her brand image.
However, the reputation that took her years to build appears to be going up in flames as some of Teigen’s disturbing behavior has recently come to light, including shocking allegations of bullying in which she reportedly encouraged young people to commit suicide, according to Breitbart.
Breitbart reported in May that model Courtney Stodden came forward about her experience being bullied by Teigen as a teenager, adding that the model went so far as to tell her to commit suicide.
“She wouldn’t just publicly tweet about wanting me to take ‘a dirt nap,’ but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself. Things like, ‘I can’t wait for you to die,'” Stodden told the Daily Beast last week.
“There have probably been five times that I’ve felt like I wanted to kill myself — and made the actions to go ahead and do it,” Stodden recalled.
Teigen apparently bullied many
Breitbart writer Alana Mastrangelo noted in a piece on Sunday that Stodden apparently isn’t the only one who recalls being subjected to Teigen’s bullying.
Another alleged victim includes fashion designer Michael Costello, who stated that Teigen smeared him as a racist and said he deserves “to suffer and die.” Teigen denied Costello’s allegations in a profanity-laced Twitter response and insisted that screenshots of her comments were fake.
Still, Ronn Torossian, founder and CEO of 5W Public Relations, told The Mercury News that he was skeptical of Teigen’s ability to regain her once-stellar public image, at least among those who shared her same liberal viewpoints.
PR experts predict Teigen is doomed
“These claims won’t easily be forgotten, and the public will only be harder on her and expect better from her moving forward,” Torossian said. “There are only so many times you can turn to an apology to try and fix your wrong doings.”
He went on to explain that “The persona Teigen has built for herself in recent years place value on being real, and the public has accepted that she is synonymous with the truth.”
“People know she’s aggressive, outspoken and unapologetic — so why would they believe she’s sorry now?” Torossian added.
“It’s the hypocrisy of positioning herself as a celebrity, in ways that are communicating compassion and enlightenment to social issues, but then behind the scenes, she’s acting in ways that are abominable,” said Eric Schiffer, the chairman of Reputation Management Consultants.
