We already knew that the mainstream media has been going easy on President Joe Biden. Now, we know how easy.
The Washington Examiner reports that Biden, since becoming president, has received less negative coverage from the press than any president in the last three decades.
The numbers prove it
The Examiner’s article was based on a new study that was recently released by the Pew Research Center.
What this study found was that, during Biden’s first 60 days as president, only about 19 percent of the media coverage that he has received from U.S. media outlets has been negative.
What you probably want to know is how that compares to the press coverage that former President Donald Trump received during his first couple of months in office. The answer is that Trump saw about 62 percent negative media coverage.
Biden, in fact, received the least negative press during his first 60 days in office of any president in the past thirty years, including Bill Clinton, who had 28 percent negative coverage, George W. Bush, who also had 28 percent negative coverage, and Barack Obama, who had 20 percent negative coverage.
Media coverage: Trump v. Biden
The Pew Research Center went into more detail about the different media coverage that Trump and Biden have each received.
The center wrote:
When it comes to the tone of coverage, both new administrations received more negative assessments than positive assessments of their activities. But while the percentage of Biden stories with an overall negative assessment (32%), modestly outnumbered the share with positive assessments (23%), stories with negative assessments of Trump outnumbered those with positive assessments by four-to-one (44% to 11%). The same share of stories about each president were neither positive nor negative (45% for both Biden and Trump).
The Pew Research Center also reported a major difference in how the media framed stories about Trump versus stories about Biden during the early days of their administrations.
The Center wrote:
Another stark difference in the early coverage of the Biden and Trump administrations was in how stories were framed. About two-thirds of Biden stories (65%) were framed around ideology and agenda, while about one-third (35%) focused on leadership and character. With Trump, the numbers were roughly reversed, with 74% framed around leadership and character and 26% around policy and ideology.
MSM in decline
Since Trump left office, it has become clear that the mainstream media was doing far better constantly bashing Trump than it is now doing praising Biden. Viewership numbers have continued to show that many mainstream media networks, especially CNN, are struggling to get viewers without Trump. This is why they continued to, in the words of Breitbart, “fixate” on Trump.
Fox News, meanwhile, continues to lead the way in viewership, despite losing some viewers as a result of its 2020 election coverage.
