The Walt Disney company appears to have just been exposed.
Breitbart reports that new whistleblower documents appear to show that the company encourages its employees to adopt ideas based on critical race theory.
What the documents show
This story was originally published by Christopher F. Rufo in the City Journal. Rufo is one of the leaders in the movement against the teaching of critical race theory in schools.
In his recent article, Rufo claimed to have obtained insider documents from Disney as well as information from Disney employees. The documents, according to Rufo, relate to Disney’s “diversity and inclusion” training program called “Reimagine Tomorrow.”
According to Rufo, the documents assert, among other things, that the United States has a “long history of systemic racism and transphobia” and they tell employees what they can do to rectify this. The documents, for example, tell employees to aim for “equity,” particularly “equality of outcome,” over “equality.”
In the documents, Disney, according to Rufo, also pushes the common Critical Race Theory idea that “competition,” “individualism,” “timeliness,” and “comprehensiveness” all “perpetuate white supremacy culture.”
Rufo, in his article, also said that he has spoken to a number of Disney employees about Reimagine Tomorrow and that they told him that the program has led to “racial conflict” in the company.
What ought to be clarified here is that some details of Reimagine Tomorrow have yet to be reported on. For example, we don’t know how long the program has been in place and we also don’t know whether or not the program is mandatory for any of Disney’s employees.
Background
Republicans, in recent years, have been stepping up their opposition to critical race theory. In recent months, several Republican governors, including Oklahoma’s Kevin Stitt (R), have signed laws that essentially outlaw the teaching of critical race theory in public schools.
And, Donald Trump, when he was president, took steps to outlaw such training programs as Disney’s Reimagine Tomorrow from federal workplaces. President Biden, however, has reversed those policies.
Disney, itself, has also recently come under scrutiny after it was discovered that the company collaborated in the making of Mulan with authorities in China’s western Xinjiang province, where there have been concentration camps for Uyghurs.
Disney has neither responded to this revelation nor the report from Rufo.
